Ok, so I've been seeing him for a few weeks now and we're pretty close and there's definitely a connection... buuut.. his old friends, who I knew before him, used to pronounce my name slightly wrong. I didn't care before, and I got used to it, but now he is doing it too, and telling his family my name like THAT instead of how it's supposed to be pronounced.

My question is how do I stop the madness?!?! I guess I could just tell him that I prefer it the other way? It's just so awkward!

I've tried to hint at it!! I've said my name the other way many times! Even a friend of his that I met .. a few days ago.. asked me, so how do you pronounce your name? And I said , either way works. Mainly b/c he was right there..

But I really prefer it the other way.. LOL

It's not hard to pronounce. He's done it before. I guess he just doesn't want to switch it up in the middle of the game.

Just tell him....he will understand that you didn't want to offend him ...but since you are going to be spending more time together that he should know the true pronunciation..

I had the same problem you do. My bf always pronounced my name wrong and it always pissed me off. I finally realized that it doesn't matter how they say your name as long as they say something instead of BABE. That's all he calls me now. Or he'll say MY WOMAN, MY OLD LADY, or my favorite, THE BOSS! Just be thankful that he gets close to saying your name right. Don't let the whole name thing worry you, it could just be a faze or maybe he's not mature enough to give in to his buddies and say, "hey, call her by her real name". I finally found out that he has a little speech impedement and it's definitely not a rare thing. He also has a lisp so that doesn't help either. Don't let it get to you, soon enough he'll grow up or you'll find out he really has something wrong with him.

All The Best!

Your name was chosen for you especially by your parents/guardians. Have pride in your name but don't let it define you. I mean it would not be much different than anyone just making up a name for you. Yes I know, in Romeo and Juliet, "A Rose of any other name... Whatev’..." There is a difference between this situation and a rose being what it is no matter what the rose is named. If you consider this "madness" suck it up and tell people how to correctly pronounce your name. I know that I would probably not get it right if you told me, but I would not be offended or feel it an awkward place for you to correct me. If this advice does not work just legally change your name to something easier to pronounce.

This is normal maybe your name is not an American name and he is American, so it will be difficult for him to pronounce it. and if his language is not English and your name is American then it would be hard as will.

All you can do is let him know and show him how is your name pronounced. I had the same issue because my name is Arabic and people have hard time with it so take it easy.

Just TELL HIM.
I know it feels weird like, "why didn't you tell me the first time I said it wrong" but...think about it...the longer you wait, the more awkward it will get.
Just up and tell him that it was cool w/ you and your friend since you're easygoing like that but (in case he's interested) it's really pronounced "___."
Just be cool and casual when you're saying this and DO NOT ABOVE ANYTHING ELSE give him any impression that you may be upset for his mix-up.
Just laugh it off.
Good luck!! :)

POLITELY remind him of the correct pronounciation and ask that he use it. I have been down this road myself and my name is actually fairly easy to pronounce. THat would just be my suggestion.

oh god. oh god. even i feel awkward reading this question.

i have an idea.

in a casual scenario, (ex. on the phone with a coworker or something) have the person ask you your name..then you say your name. then your bf goes.."wait i thought it was pronounced blah blah" and then you go "no why?" and he goes.."well i've always pronounced it that way.." then you go "oh, i guess i havent noticed"

its worth a try. i mean..you dont want to embarass him..

Silly question. All you have to do is tell him the correct pronounciation and tell him you would really like it if he said it right.

I know how you feel.....
My name is "Alana", but nobody says it right!!!
It is pronounced "ah LAN ah", but everybody calls me "Alaina, Atlanta, Alanna,Elana,Elaina, etc"
IT'S ANNOYING!!!!
So now, I say my name as "Alana Banana", so they call me that instead, which is O.K.

just tell him, " um, sweety, u've been pronouncing my name wrong." he'll probably be embarrassed at first, but he'll probably laugh.
