I'm thinking about doing a candy buffet. I will be having about 150 guests, including just 2 children. How much candy should I have for each guest, 1/2 a pound or 1/4 of a pound. What do people think?

The candy buffet is the favor and part of the dessert portion of the menu.

1/4 lb is probably enough for each guests. I hate to say it but I'm sure that many guests won't take any of the candy. (I wouldn't.) So if you get too much, you'll have a tonne of it left over afterwards.
What about a chocolate fountain instead? Have fruit and cake cubes to dip into it. It's still different and people would be more into that than a candy buffet. Just my opinion, though! The candy buffet seems to be popular around this forum so maybe it'll go over better than I expect?

I would plan 1/4 lb. per person attending...because some people won't take any, and some will take a little more. Make sure you keep the bags about the size that will hold 1/4 lb. too--if you have bigger bags for people to fill, some folks will fill their whole bag up--so keep the bags smaller as well. I'd also probably get a few extra lbs. of candy, just to be on the safe side. It's a great idea--I went to a wedding once where they did this, and all the guests really liked it! Congrats and good luck!

Sounds fun! I think each guest should get 1/2 pound that way they can take it home and think about the party later on:) Also if you get a wide variety of candy that some people might want to take a little of each, this way they can with 1/2 pound. You would be surprised how little 1/4 can be with a variety!!!!! Have Fun!

Candy buffets are all the rage right now in weddings (are you doing it all in one color?) but I think maybe a 1/4 of a pound would be good. You'll probably have a better idea of how much candy to get once you see the layout of the table and the set up of the candy. :)

I would go with 1/4 of a pound and have it so that they mix to get that pound limit so that you do not have to get as much. (do this for the take home) but let them only get a few of each kind until everyone has gotten there 1/4 pound and then they can go and get more once ever one has went once.

Just get some cute little boxes that match your colors or theme for people to fill with candy. There are loads on www.theknot.com...this is where I've gotten all my ideas.

Oh I think that is SO cool! Our family always has a cookie table - that is all of the Italian and Greek women outdoing each other with their baked goods for the wedding!

You won't need more than 1/4 pound per person. I think it is a great idea.
