Quiero un poco de helado, por favor.

If you want to say: I want an ice cream, please: Quiero un helado, por favor.

In some Latin-American countries, people say sometimes: Quiero una paleta (de helado), which means I want a popcycle; and Quiero una nieve = I want an ice cream.

Well, is right to say:

quiero helado

or literal:
quiero algo de helado, por favor,

we use too:

quiero nieve por favor

but when we are asking for something in a store or restaurant, we usually do not say .... quiero.....

is better to use

me podría dar una nieve, por favor
o
le pido una nieve, por favor,
o
me da una nieve, por favor
