I believe that demons can possess and that most so called mental illness has to do with demons. I believe that demons can be cast out in Jesus' name.

Yes, I believe demons can possess a person who is an unbeliever and can be cast out in Jesus' Name. I've never seen it or been aware of it personally, but I believe it because Jesus and the disciples experienced people with demons and cast them out. Also, through the years, I've met missionaries who have cast out demons. They don't like to tell it to everyone, because people (naieve Christians) really never imagine what a real missionary is confronted with in the mission field. I happen to be invited to some special closed meetings with church missionaries on a few occasions years ago, in which the missionaries told more about their experiences than what they normally share in public programs. It was eye-opening to say the least, and one of the things they talked about was demon possessions, witch doctors, all sorts of pagan rituals and beliefs, etc.
Of course, you don't have to be in a foreign, remote civilization to run into all this. Demons have the run of the world and are everywhere. Their power is limited and cannot hang out for long where the Word of God is magnified. And they cannot possess a Christian simply because the Holy Spirit abides within the Christian already. But, they can influence and tempt Christians if they allow it.
I know nothing about exorcism, but I have known a pastor who has done this. He wasn't my pastor, but I was very close to his wife and they shared this information with me in confidence. They told me all about a lady in their church in another town that was possessed. I had no reason to disbelieve either of them because I knew how geniune they both are. I suspect there are many Christian leaders who have encountered demon possessions in their ministries, but the genuine ones are not on TV doing it in front of the world. They work behind the scenes and do not bring attention to themselves or to the one who's possessed.
As far as mental illness, I think perhaps sometimes it is caused by demons, but even then, it could be from generational sins. When men refuse to obey the laws of God repeatedly, God passes their plights from generation to generation. It can be reversed, of course, simply by coming to Jesus and breaking the hold of Satan on their life.

Demons are just as real as you or I. I have encountered many people which were demon possessed and have cast them out in the name of Jesus Christ. If you go overseas in Asia and in poor parts of the world you will find demon possession is very common, known, and understood. At times, I can see demons on people or even walking with them. There are alot of wicked acts which are the inspiration of demons: murder, rape, immoral sexual acts,. And even some sicknesses are the work of demons: schizophrenia, seizures, being mute, and on and on.
