"Functional food or medicinal food is any fresh or processed food claimed to have a health-promoting and/or disease-preventing property beyond the basic nutritional function of supplying nutrients, although there is no consensus on an exact definition of the term."
"A developing country has a relatively low standard of living, an undeveloped industrial base, and a moderate to low Human Development Index (HDI) score. In developing countries, there is low per capita income, widespread poverty, and low capital formation."
"Developing nation" is an euphemism for "impoverished nation" (note that nations that are truly developing are not termed "developing nations").
"Functional Foods", therefore, are either worse than useless in "Developing nations", adding to the already heavy burden of despair, or must be redefined more simply as those foods which stave off starvation.
