Kajabbi is supposed to be the home of the famous Kajabbi Yabbi. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I think it is on the Edwards River, but not sure of that.

When last heard of Kajabbi was in North West Queensland, more or less near Mount Isa and Cloncurry and maybe a thousand miles from Broken Hill. If there is a population of more than twenty there I would be surprised. A branch railway line from Cloncurry ran by it, but it closed in 1988 and is now a wreck. Way back in 1969 people in Cloncurry, no metropolis itself, used to regard Kajabbi as just about the back of beyond. However is is reasonably close to Lake Julius, a dam used to supply water to Mount Isa. The yabbies probably live in the dam.

Trevor Long and Bob Dover started racing Yabbies at the Kajabbi Hotel, as a fund raiser for a charity that became the Gary Nixon Memorial Fund, in Mount Isa.
It was the original Yabby Race in Oz and had a great following. It was featured on the Getaway TV program some years ago. The Races became known as the Famous Kajabbi Yabby Races. Cheers Trev.

Kajabbi is north-west of Mount Isa -
in Queensland - if there's another near Broken Hill they are more than welcome!
