I am 13 weeks pregnant and worried about it. Is it safe?

Both Vicodin and Tylenol #3 are acetaminophen with an opiate narcotic added. Vicodin has Hydrocodone, while Tylenol #3 has Codeine.

Consult your physician, but as far as I know, opiates like Codeine and Hydrocodone are FDA category C meds, which should be avoided during pregnancy if possible.

Only straight Tylenol without any opiates is FDA Category B ("probably safe for pregnancy").

Hope this helps.

Call the pharmacy that filled the prescription to find out if there are any adverse affects for pregnant women. Tylenol with codeine is also a prescription pain med with side effects as well. It may not have been an accident that your dentist prescribed it. Call the pharmacy tonight. If yours is closed call any 24 hr pharmacy in the country and you will get the info you need.

Pregnancy wise, there's not much difference between the two. Both are acetaminophen -- T3 has codeine, Vicodin has hydrocodone. Both the codeine and hydrocodone are FDA pregnancy category C. Category C means, "There are either no adequate studies, either animal or human, or there are adverse fetal effects in animal studies but no available human data. Many medications pregnant women use fall into this category."

Best to give your OB/GYN a call.

Good luck to you!

You'll be fine. Neither codeine nor vicodin is likely to harm you or your baby when taken in prescribed doses for a short time for dental pain. Actually, failing to take proper pain relievers and suffering the stress of pain can be more detrimental to your baby than these drugs.

It's perfectly fine to take - I am on Vicodin 5 mg and I am still in my first trimester. The only thing you may have to worry about is maybe your baby detoxing when born or contracting the drug from your milk if you breastfeed and you are still on the medication. Don't worry, everything will be fine. Good luck.

Well I know that Vicodin has Tylenol in it but I wouldn't chance it. I would take OTC Tylenol until you can reach him tomorrow and have him call in the Ty 3's for you.

Go back to your dentist about it.

But toothache pain is nothing compared to childbirth.

your baby doesn't need codeine either. plain tylenol would be better. the first trimester is when the organs develop.

same med. did your dentist know you are pregnant??? this is important info to share. regular tylenol is safer. be sure to let your OB know about your dental care.

just phone the pharmacy . all women should tell both the doctors and the pharmacist if they are pregnant or may be .
if you cant get though to the pharmacy that filled it then just call any pharmacy that is open 24 hours and they will tell you what to do .
