No. I'm an atheist because I don't believe there is a God.
I'm not scared of what's going to happen to me after I die. I don't think anything is going to happen to me after I die. I don't think I'm even going to be aware that I'm dead.
And I do live my life the way I want to live it. I'm a faithful wife, and a loving mother to two beautiful little children. I'm a devoted daughter, sister, and friend. I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs. (Never have. I haven't even had a speeding ticket.) I donate to charity and I do volunteer work. How dare you insinuate that I live a sinful life and somehow deserve to be tortured for all of eternity. (Not for being a bad person, but for simply not believing in the same thing YOU believe in.)
Just because you don't UNDERSTAND how we don't believe in your God, doesn't give you the right to pass such judgments on us. And you ARE judging. If you hadn't had the idea that there is a God pounded into your head all your life, you'd be an atheist, too.

You say you aren't going to judge, yet you say that atheists live in sin.
I am an Atheist because there is no God. I am not scared of what happens to me when I die. I will be buried (possibly cremated, haven't quite made my mind up yet). And that will be it.
If I was scared of going to hell, then that would mean I believe in God. Because Hell doesn't exist outside of religion.
No religion = no Hell.
I am still waiting for God to give me everything, and do so much for me. Maybe then I will believe. But no. Everything I have is becuase I have worked hard to get it.

It's the opposite:
I am an atheist because I need to understand the truth:
"I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking. The world is so exquisite with so much love and moral depth, that there is no reason to deceive ourselves with pretty stories for which there's little good evidence. Far better it seems to me, in our vulnerability, is to look death in the eye and to be grateful every day for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides."
[Carl Sagan, 1996 in his article In the Valley of the Shadow Parade Magazine Also, Billions and Billions p. 215]

The only thing I am "scared" of is Christians in their delusion ruining the United States by corrupting the three branches of government and eventually the Constitution itself. Granted, that may still be a long way off, but the trend over the last 10 years was pretty scary.
Is it impossible for you to understand that I think all of your faith is misguided faith in 3000 year old myths? It's not grounded in reality. I don't worry about what's going to happen to me after I die. I worry about the life my daughter and unborn child will live if Christians who believe in Armageddon continue working to make something like it a self-fulfilling prophecy!

Well, I'm not trying to bash believers or disprove God here, you can believe whatever the hell you want. However, don't try to make your theology into law if you've got nothing to back it up except "God says so". Don't let people discriminate against homosexuals, don't let people stop women from getting necessary health care, and don't let your religious beliefs get invovled in science and education. That's what we see religion doing every day, and that's why we disagree with what you believe in - because somehow you've managed to push it on everyone else.

No, think you are accusing people of something for the wrong reason. Most non-belivers just can't get past the image of god and jesus walking hand ind hand down a ray of sunlight, tapping people on the head as they all sit on a fluffy cloud in heaven... makes no sense.
Religious ideas are contrary to experience. I'm thinking that what most non-religious people dislike is that fundamentalistic christians are forcing their beliefs into the legal system of the United States. This country was based on freedom of and from religious ideas in government.... and to see that this is happening disturbs most of them, and with good reason.... If one wishes to live in a theocracy, live in Iran.or Egypt.

"...i just dont understand how you can deny a god who has given us everything and done so much for us!!!!"
No proof. No evidence.
How many gods do you believe in? How can you deny all the other gods? Atheists not believing in your god is the same as you not believing in other gods.

Honestly no, I know what will happen after I die. You are the one who needs to think there is something else. How does my lack of caring show that I am afraid? Its your actual belief in something you can't prove that shows your need to fill in the blanks with nonsense just so you feel better.
God has done nothing for me and given me nothing.

Being an atheist I know exactly what will happen to me when I die.... nothing. I have no fear of death, it is inevitable, it is natural. What is very obvious is that it is the religious believers that have a great fear of death hence the need to create such an elaborate myth.

I'm pretty sure the bulk of the religious masses primarily believe in their respective religions because they refuse to believe this is it. Well, whether it doesn't seem like this could be all that existence is, there is no evidence to the contrary.
