Currently, no. However, as science continues to discover the answers to questions once thought to be unanswerable, there will likely be a shift toward agnosticism and/or atheism. I just hope that when that occurs, we don't make the same mistakes the faithful have made and try to shove our beliefs into others' lives.

No, the communists have tried it for many decades now and other governments have tried it throughout history. There is an inate knowledge of the reality of God that people are instilled with from conception. Now, many people have chosen to disregard or otherwise ignore the presence and Will of God but that doesn't mean God Himself ceased to exist.
Plus, in human's weakness God thrives because than it is His strength and not ours which is glorified.

Religion doesn't need to be wiped out from society. In fact, if it were to be, it would be detrimental. Why? I'll tell you.
The people who contemplatively reject the notions of governing beings, afterlives and absolute good vs. evil are the ones who are open-minded enough to know how to live their lives in the service of others without being bound to such a covenant as ancient sacred texts.
There are inevitably many, many people who are NOT open-minded or intelligent enough to do this, and these people need the threat of damnation, the promise of salvation and eternal utopian afterlife consciousness to convince them that they ought to do the right thing.
The world need not be wiped clean of religion. The world need be wiped clean of fundamentalists who interpret ancient, sexist, outdated law (because it's within their sacred textbook) as a current truth, in spite of centuries of losing semantic reliability in translation, and in spite of blatant contradiction as well. These are the self-righteous ones who can't comprehend their mistakes and are too ignorantly pious to know any better, and unfortunately, 50% of this country still votes ONLY for the politicians who deceitfully self-proclaim as devout God-fearing Christians.
Religion doesn't need to disappear. It needs a realignment.

it could be yes, if you could convince everyone that what they really are calling religion is called something else.
Does that make sense? people believe what they want to believe, simply because they can and want to.

That will never happen. People need religion to feel safe. and besides if we didn't have religion what else would people argue over.

Possibly, if you make it illegal.
But i think people would start rebelling....
And it would be hard to enforce.
