I think it is because many American churches have aligned themselves with the Republican party, so that many Christians have identified morality with opposition to abortion and things to do with sex, and have a complete blind spot when it comes to the Bible's teachings about justice, poverty and many other issues. We are wealthy and comfortable in the U.S., Christians included, and the Bible largely condemns people like us. Christians in this country, in other words, are lined up against rather than for the most central values of the Bible, and thus against the plight of most Christians around the world. Sure, we throw money at them via charities, but we are unwilling to challenge the structures that actually keep the poor poor.
Want the church to wake up? Find some way to get people to read the Book of Amos.

....and that comfort has led to the worship of the "almighty" dollar!
American church? You mean the more than 3,000 different denominations in this country all wanting to do their own thing? Face it....they're all competing for your membership. No other nation on earth has nearly even half as many denominations to choose from. Each has its own interpretation of Scripture, worship and other things. But Truth is One...as in One Church....not 3,000. If they were all inspired by the Holy Spirit, each church would come to the SAME conclusion....not the Lutheran, Anglican, Episcoplain, Assembly og God, Prebyterian, Methodist (and on and on ad nauseum) version of things. Like the consumerist society we live in, there are too many choices.

Amen to that. I was just thinking that today because of some of the answer that I have read in R & S.
We may be staying in our comfort zone too much. My Pastor is trying to rally us to get, and think out of the box. We don't want a lukewarm Church.

too late, some will make it and some won't, but the USA has bit the bullet
Rev 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
