I agree I think the person probably was talking about the concept of God being a joke. Question are you a believer? Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior? If not and you are in search of salvation would encourage you to read Romans 10:9-13 in the Holy Bible to seek salvation. If so I would suggest that you give the atheist the wind test. Ask them do they feel the wind, then ask do they see the wind? Then I would suggest you tell them just because you can't see the wind does not mean it is not there but you can feel the wind and that is how God is you may not be able to see him but you can feel him through the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ working in and through you.

Nope. To her god is an idea, not a real being.
You can imagine something that is not real.
Like flying pork. Yes, flying pork chops. With pink bows.
I think she was looking at the irony of religion when compared to the apparent meaninglessness of our universe:
It is conceivable that religion may be morally useful without being intellectually sustainable.

I believe strongly that Atheists try not to believe in God, but deep down they know that there is a God but are maybe just trying to get attention or be a rebel. What that statement means though is that there is a half-hearted acknowledgment of God

Everyone is obligated to acknowledge others' belief in the existence of god. However, it does not mean that I have to believe in the existence of god. It is her opinion. As such, she should respect your opinion and beliefs as you should respect hers.

Yes, she is acknowledging the existance of God. I bet if you could hear what comes out of her mouth the next time something horrible happens to her you would hear her say, "Oh God!" Even those who say they don't believe will always reach for Him (in one way or another) in their time of need, although you would never get them to admit that.
