He has a bigger problem than racism, and that's a desperate desire to do any stupid thing to be a part of a group. Not every white guy in jail gets a tattoo, that's bs. If there is racism you are going to get jumped for being in a race anyway, tattoo or not. How would getting a swastika make anything better. He was just desperate to please his white friends. Perhaps he treats you well, but I'll bet he won't really like your father, brothers, uncle, etc.
I'd make him get it removed or covered up with another tat, just as a show he intends to not go back in jail, if nothing else, but it does not sound like a real positive for you.

To me, i felt that there is nothing wrong with having a tattoo. I don think there is any need for you to request him to remove it.
The defination of what is swastika is available below and more details at the link.
As for the jail history, it is all past and nothing can be changed. So no point in looking at it. What you need to do now is to look at the future of where you and him will be heading. If you are bothered by this symbol, then you will be disturb by it.
Learn to give in and accept things as they come. Since it is only a symbol, jus cool it and let things be the way it is. If need to, have a good talk with him.

The swastika (from Sanskrit svástika स्वास्तिक ) is an equilateral cross with its arms bent at right angles, in either right-facing (卐) or left-facing (卍) forms. The term is derived from Sanskrit svasti, meaning well-being. The Thai greeting sawasdee is from the same root, carrying the same implication.
It is a widely-used symbol in Dharmic religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism). Hindus often decorate the swastika with a dot in each quadrant. In India, it is common enough to be a part of several Devanagari fonts. It is also a symbol in the modern unicode. It is often imprinted on religious texts, marriage invitations, decorations etc. It is used to mark religious flags in Jainism and to mark Buddhist temples in Asia.
Archaeological evidence of swastika shaped ornaments goes back to the Neolithic period. In 1920 the swastika was appropriated as a Nazi symbol, and has since then become a controversial motif as a consequence. In the Western world, it is this usage as a symbol of Nazism that is most familiar, and this political association has largely eclipsed its historical status in the East.

i think of you are able to desire to check out this from his attitude. The swastika is an exceedingly previous and considerable part of Indian lifestyle relationship decrease back to the Indus Valley civilization of historical India. It maintains to be extensively utilized in Indian religions alongside with Hinduism,Buddhism, and Jainism as a sacred image of solid success. this is no longer your boyfriend's fault that it exchange into stolen and perverted by employing the Nazis-for sure this has to do along with his faith. i comprehend that being Jewish it has an exceedingly damaging impression on you,yet there are 2 aspects to each tale. possibly you are able to attain a compromise-like removing the candle holders whilst travellers come over.

For the record, I am white, and I would have a BIG problem with this tatt.
It represents hate to me, and I have a problem with hate. If, like someone else suggested, he did it to impress his white jail friends, then how strong is he, really?
If you want to bring it up, just ask him if he ever thought of having it covered?
if he says yeah, ask why he hasn't yet?
if it turns out money is the issue (tatts get expensive) offer to help pay for the coverup. depending on how big it is, it can take a few sessions to do, so the payments would be spaced out.
Just talk to him, that is the most important thing.

If he was a true devoted member of the Aryan Brotherhood or Nazi Low Riders, Crazy White Boys, Peckerwoods, ect he would not even talk to you. I would hope none of his prison buddies find out about this cause they will probably beat him half to death or worse. 88!
Even though most prison gangs have gone to better ways of identifieng themselves other than tattoos if he was to remove it not only would it be painfull and expensive but since all those gangs are Blood in Blood out if he was chaught with out his tattoo that would be yet another damn good reason for them to kill him. That is the punishment for leaving the gang.

Well if it really bothers you, I would sit him down and ASK him if you could talk about it. If he agrees,Proceed with caution...
Let's assume that he has agreed to talk about it. Start with asking him why he got it and if it means anything special to him,Listen to his answer, It may be helpful in not only finding out why,But bring up some new insights on your boyfriend. tell him how you feel about it, Be honest and sincere with him..
If he hasn't gotten offended ,Then your well on your way to better understanding each other! Ask him if he would object to getting the tattoo removed, In any good relationship there must be open and honest communication!! Never keep secrets And show the trust and respect that each of you deserve .. I hope that helped you,And best of luck to you...

I guess i am a little biased since i am African American. However I do not think it would be wrong to ask him to get rid of it. Hopefully he is living a clean life and will not go to prison again. If he is still living a little dangerous and might go to prison again and you love him then let him keep it. If he goes back and they see that he removed it he will be killed. Even though I disagree with all it stands for in prison you do have to survive so I understand.

Pretty hard to get rid of it, unless you "paint" it over with another, more elaborate tattoo. His explanation is probably the truth. Actions speak louder than words, so just him by what his does... that's where his heart is. There will be plenty of other worries.

okay- wow this sounds pretty crazy girl! ask him if he would get rid of it, if he defends it you know he has emotional attachment to it, he should want it off his body. if he resists get out of the relationship! if he complies or at least tries than give it another chance.
much love!
