I think it depends on your beliefs while i for one take as sacred b/c my relationship is personal with Christ others just view it as another pece of pretty jewlery. I don't think there was anything beautiful about Christ's suffering butthe result's are most definately the most beautiful thing I can think of and it's symbolized in the cross

Some people find becoming seemingly less sacred now because it is used as more of a fashion statement. It's sad really that you can turn a religious relic, central to a major world faith, into a fashion symbol. Many Christians find it tacky to wear flamboyant crosses and most use a simple gold chain with a simple gold cross.

The cross is a symbol that I wear as a declaration of my faith, but it is not sacred.
If it were sacred to me, I could find mysef in danger of relying on the cross' prescence in my life as a source of comfort, and a conduit to Heavenly favor, instead of turning to the Father and all he provides and makes available to his children when I have a need, to the salvation found in Christ alone, and relying on the comfort that is ours through the Holy Spirit.
So while I don't wear the cross as just a piece of jewelry, I don't consider it sacred either. I also wear both plain and ornate. Most people understand the meaning behind it regardless of what it looks like. And I do whether anyone else does or not.
God bless you.

Consider this...
If someone I loved ( say my mother for example) was killed by a gun, do you think I would want to wear a small replica of that murder weapon around my neck to remember how she died?
I don't think so!!

because they worship the cross and what it means to them others may not see the cross as sacred cause their sins are not in front of their face yet

the cross itself is not sacred.
any statues, monuments, can never be sacred or be worshipped.
it is Jesus dying on the cross, the act of sacrifice, that is sacred.
He is Holy, yet He died for us on the cross. this is sacred. accepting this fact into our hearts is sacred.
a cross sculpture cannot protect us. it is God who stands in our defense of demons.

It is a symbol of what I believe. Just as the symbol of the fish on the back of my car. I wear my cross to identify myself as a Christian. Jewish people often wear the Star of David, is it any different?

I consider it sacred because it reminds me of what my savior did for me.
