We humans cannot find peace of heart unless we find meaning in life. Meaning is that in which our hearts find rest. We never achieve meaning as one achieves a purpose, by hard work. It is always received as a pure gift. And yet we must GIVE meaning to our lives.
How can we do this? Through gratefulness. Gratefulness is the inner gesture of giving meaning to our life by RECEIVING life as a gift. The deepest meaning of any given moment lives in the fact that it is given. Gratefulness recognizes, acknowledges and celebrates this meaning.
"Enter God's gates with thanksgiving, and the courts with praise! Give thanks to God; bless God's name! For Yahweh is good; God's steadfast love endures forever, and God's faithfulness to all generations." - Psalm 100,4-5

Neither we came with our will nor we could go with our will.
This life is temporary and the permanent life is in hereafter
We have been sent on a mission to perform good deeds and keep away from evil.
Basing upon your virtues you will be awarded accordingly not only in this life to certain extent but permanently in hereafter.
It is not just a guess work. All the Holy Prophets were sent to guide us in this regard.
Blessed are those who obey the Lord Almighty.

Well if you are a Theist, the meaning of life is trying to prove what a good person you are so you get to go to heaven.
If you are an Atheist, you live by the Reebok rule. Life's Short, Play Hard.

There is no one meaning of life. It is different for everyone. What makes me happy and is my reason to strive to be a better person may not be the same as yours. In fact it most defiantly is not.
