Your vehicle is equipped with
SECURILOCK PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
SecuriLock passive anti-theft system is an engine immobilization
system. This system is designed to prevent the engine from being started
unless a coded key programmed to your vehicle is used. The use of
the wrong type of coded key may lead to a “no-start” condition.
Theft indicator
The theft indicator is located on top of the instrument panel.
• When the ignition is in the 2 (OFF) position, the indicator will flash
once every 2 seconds if the vehicle is locked and the perimeter alarm
is armed.
If a problem occurs with the SecuriLock system, the indicator will flash
rapidly or glow steadily when the ignition is in the 4 (RUN) position. If
this occurs, the vehicle should be taken to an authorized dealer for service.

NOTE: the above was copied from your owners manual, pages 153 &154. If you do not have an owners manual, you can download & save it to your computer by clicking here:

You didn't state what model year you have so I set up a 2004 manual. If you need a different year, please e-mail me from my profile page & I'll get you a different link.
I hope this helps

You see a blinking security system light, lock and unlock your car with a remote device that includes a panic alarm. You know these things, and conclude you have no security system. Here's an idea for you. Park your car, and then lock the doors with the remote device you carry. Roll the windows down enough to allow your arm to reach inside. Step outside, close the door, and try to open the door from outside the vehicle, by reaching in to the door-handle, as though you were a thief.

The alarm you will hear is your non-security Security system.

the lights is only a sign that the car alarm still works, otherwise no one can tell if the car will roar (or make noisy sound) when someone steal your car. then why the lights are blinking ? it's more about saving the life of the lights. The blinking lights have longer life than regular lights. actually, if you got annoyed, you could cover the lights with something like thick paper, so the red lights didn't get to your eyes.

The LS has a factory security system, in fact all Lincolns do!

Virtually EVERY Ford/Lincoln-Mercury product since 1998, except Ford trucks, have been equipped with PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System). This means if you lose your key(s), you will not only have to cut a new key, but also have to have it PROGRAMMED at the dealer as well. If you attempt to use an unprogrammed key to start your vehicle, that red light will flash FAST, and the vehicle will NOT start. Hope this helps.

That's the security system that you don't know of. Read your manual. None? Ask the local Lincoln dealer to explain it to you.

It is just a warning light, to make it look as if the vehicle has an alarm. If you have keyless entry, the horn should also honk when you push the lock button 2 or 3 times. Its just for looks.
