The minimum amount of time is 2 years with the maximum time being 6 years for an enlistment. However, when you sign the enlistment contract it is for 8 years. So many years being on active duty and the remainder being inactive. Once you have shipped to basic training the only way to get out of your contract is to be too hurt to finish the training. Be chaptered for some type of misconduct. You cant decide to go home after basic training its not that easy. You have to wait until you have completed your contract or be you are kicked out.

Took less than 1 minute to find a dd4 dated jan 2001 that states 8 years. Did not see a different period for females. Min. 24 months active and a lot of yada yada.

In Dino days it was 6 years for us guy's. Females had no obligation and were discharged when their enlistment ended.

Any time left after active duty would be served in the IN-Active Reserve. (No monthly drill meetings) you would get the discharge once your 6 years was complete

You can sign up for anywhere between 2 and 6 years but you are commited to 8 years.

Say you sign up for 2 when you get finished with the 2 years you still have 6 in the IRR (Individual Ready Reserve) you don't go to drills or duty but you can be called up at a moments notice to go to war if you are needed.

Your service is based on the old empire. in which your soldiers have to do a minimum of 3yrs colour service then they go on a reserve list which is all dependent on the DOD when you come off.

However, there exceptions to the rule and you'll find that tradesmen or those in corps have to serve for longer due to the cost of training them to do specific tasks.

I served in HM Forces, the minimum there is 3yrs colour with option for 22yrs the time left when leaving is then reserve service mind you you have to give 1yrs notice of intent which can be turned down 3 times, however because of my training my minimum colour was six, i did 10 and at the age of 46 have just had my reserve service extended again. You never know they may need someone that can move really really

slow.

It's 4 yrs active duty and should you get out after 4 yrs you have a 4 yr period of inactive reserve so a total of 8yrs. After the 8 yrs they can't call you back, unless you're a officer.

Well you go to meps for all your things, IE signing papers, drug test, preg. test, test to find out what MOS you are able to take. Min, is 2 years. 4 yrs, *after 4 years, you are still "on call" for four more years.* Then for the reserves, it's 6 years min. Then 4 years after that. *on call* IM me on my SN I can tell you everything about going awol. I had a few go awol on us during BCT.
