Oh, I can believe it. Some people's anti-Catholic bigotry knows absolutely no bounds.
Some people feel a very strong need to discredit the Church. That's because the Church teaches certain moral things that they just don't want to hear.
So, if they can convince others (or at least themselves) that the Church is to blame for everything under the sun, they can feel better about rejecting the Church's moral teachings.
In short, it's a twisted psychological defense mechanism -- attacking the source of the morality that one doesn't want to adhere to.
We saw this even with the priests' sex-abuse scandal. It was blown out of proportion and the Church was singled out, largely by people who were far more interested in throwing rocks at the Church than they were in kids' welfare. "Protecting the kids" for these people was really just a front.

Pastor Billy says: as unbelievable as it might seem even I get tired answering back. Take PBeaud for example what a nob. I don't get these people blaming others all the time for everything wrong in the world. Contary to all the revisionism being done today, the Catholic Church was not silenting (translated doing nothing) during the Holocaust. There is enough historical evidence that puts the pundits to shame.
The real point is this your in the center of a world war in occupied territory and flakes 60 years removed from the events think newspaper articles and public speeches are going to be enough to dictate to a dictator? wake up .
As but one example of what silence can do, over 80% of the Roman Jews were saved because of direct intervention by the Church under the authority of Pope Pius. Thousands of Jewish citizens were in hiding in Castle Gandolfo the Pope's summer residence. This was the highest survivor rate of anywhere in Europe.
As but one example of speaking out, In Holland the Catholic clergy openly challenged Hitler and the Nazis. After this approach had begun, the Nazis doubled their efforts in searching for Jews, and deporting them, as well the clergy was also attacked, imprisoned, and disappeared.
Why people make this ridiculous claim one also wonders why there ever was a French underground movement or a Czech one or.... a Catholic underground.
PBeaud use some brain power, I have numerous supporting links if you want to read them
additions: Archtect list your sources. Where you come up with this crap only God knows. I understand you are either an atheist or gnostic are you also a Aussie homosexual? Someone in the Church hurt you it seems and your only focus is to lash out with all these lies. I challenge you to list all your sources so as to expose the lies and half-truths.

If you mean that the silence of the Catholic Church helped to embolden the aggressors (Wilhelm in WWI and Hitler in WWII), then the answer is quite possibly, yes. However, there's a big difference between standing by and actively participating in mass murder.
Concerning WWII, we also have to remember that the seat of power for the Catholic Church was smack-dab in the very Capitol city of fascist Italy (Germany's main axis partner). We can spend all day blaming the Catholic Church for their non-intervention, but the same can be said for countless others, such as the United States. Remember the St. Louis, a passenger ship containing 930 Jewish refugees from Germany that was refused entry to Cuba, then the United States, and finally to Canada, only to be forced to return to Germany, where almost all aboard were sent to their deaths in Hitler's concentration camps.
That being said, while the Catholic Church's silence helped to embolden the aggressors, to blame them for these atrocities is to shift the blame from the real responsible parties, namely Wilhelm, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Hirohito, etc.

Hey, while we're at it, why don't we blame 9/11 and V.T. and Katrina and forest fires and nuclear bombs all on the Catholic Church too. That was sarcasm by the way.

midge, honey, are you OK?
we can go back to simply blaming the catholic church for the thousands of children that have been raped and molested by priests. and the subsequent hiding and protection they gave to those rapists.
i'll ask the others not to stray from that message. i don't know if they'll all listen, though.

Yes, I can believe it.
Remember, they have to do that in order to justify their own 'faith.'
For the poster who talked about the child molestations, better check your own backyard first.
