Why is it that when someone enrolls in the army their parents are very proud and supportive of their son, but when they mention they have to go to Iraq and fight they get angry and p*ssed off at Bush? That's what the army is about. I sympathize for those who have been killed in action, but I'm sorry it was their choice to join. What do they think the army is--a big pool party? Once you enlist you're the governments property so to speak. So why do loved ones cry out in anger when their child has been lost in battle and get angry? I understand their emotions but don't lash out at Bush or any other president. Enlisting in the Navy or Army is all about war not just free benefits. I know many people will get angry reading this but I don't care.

I think we've been doing that for years now-helping out other countries. As America being the most powerful country I think that presidents think it's their duty to save other countries from their tyrants and poverty. Just look at the Vietnam war, we intervened there too. I'm sorry but once you enlist you have to respect the wishes of the commander in chief. If he chooses to go to war then they have to go and fulfill their duty. No questions asked. Like I've said their the government's property now.

Your speaking the truth, and except for not using President Bush's proper title, your statements are in the interest of our country.

At the same time, the reason Presidents DON'T respond to these specific form of attacks by families is that they understand their grief and it is not their place.

The blood of our men and women, sacrificed to defend our country, is sacred to those of us who love our country, and their wishes must come first.

It's hard to imagine that they would want the President or any representative to come down on their families even if they acted seditiously in complaint due to the situation their child was in.

You, however, are a private citizen.

Keep speaking up, everyone, including the families of our military men and women.

That's understandable except for the fact that most Americans don't believe in this war and don't want to be in this war. Our husbands and sons and brothers are going out there to fight a losing battle just because Bush is too stupid to realize that he was wrong. Our soldiers joined the military to defend our country, not Iraq's country.

I don't know how to answer for those parents except to say I don't think they thought it through sufficiently.

Also, to denigrate your child's choice of service to country is just wrong. I would suspect though that most of the parents you speak of are just Bush haters... ( lots of them around I hear).

For myself, my youngest daughter that stayed in the states has just signed up for the U.S. Army. If she gets sent to Iraq, she is prepared, ready and willing.

Oh and for those that say poverty draft..... hardly. She has been in college since she was 15 (home schooled) and carries a 3.8.... this is something she feels strongly about and I couldn't be more proud of her..... well I could, but that would be if she would serve in the IDF! :)

I know what you are talking about. My brother is in Iraq right now. Its hard not to get mad at the President. But my brother volunteered to be in the Army. I am also an Army Veteran. I joined during Desert Storm. I knew what I was getting myself into. I never had to go to the desert, but if I had gotten orders I would have gone freely.

I couldn't agree more, these people know what they are getting into when they sign up! I don't feel sorry for them at all, as far as I'm concerned its almost suicide to join the military at this point.
