Mental Disorder or Attention Seeker?

It was really hot today when I was walking to my bus stop (about 27 degrees celcius.)

This girl walking on the other side of the street was wearing a big winter jacket, snowpants, gloves, a wooly hat, moccasins with fur trim, and a scarf.

Why was she doing this? I found it very odd... is this associated with a disorder of any kind? Maybe they get cold easily? She smelled extremly gross when we got to the bus stop, i could smell her body odor and it wasn't very plesant...any ideas?

As a mental health professional with 20+ years experience in psychiatric settings, I can almost guarantee the woman you observed was mentally ill. Even if she was only seeking attention, she's going to pretty desperate means to get it, so, either way, I'd feel pretty safe professionally by diagnosing her with some kind of schizophrenia. That lady does sound unstable. She might have been mentally disabled, developmenatly delayed or something. People with a developmental disability have a hard time knowing what to wear in the weather. That is not unusal. If there is nobody looking after her or she is homeless then this could explain the oder. I highly doubt it is for attention. Someone ought to be keeping an eye out on her.

Lacsana, there is no evidence to say that this woman is schizophrenic or has anything wrong with her. She has no delusions of persecution, grandeur, or hallucinations or anything. Plus our weather has been weird lately, and it has been a little chilly. Plus it is possible that she might be homeless because some homeless people hang out at bus stops but bottom line. So what I mean even if you had to sit next to her, which happened to me yesterday when this dirty homeless woman who smelled got on the bus. Whatever, and plus the woman may or may not be mentally ill again there e is a strong lack of evidence so whatever, okay no big deal.

She is probably schizophrenic.
We had a lady who used to walk around town in a bikini. It wasnt pretty she was about 30 pounds over weight and about 50 yrs old.
She came into the hospital where I work to visit a patient in her bikini, and one of the psych nurses came up to our floor and told her to leave unless she could dress appropriately for the hospital. She told her she knew better and pretty much to get the hell out. The lady left. I think some of it is attention getting. Why else would you walk downtown Chicago in a bikini looking like crap.
