After the recent problems with processed grain products from China being adulterated and causing deaths in cats, I researched cat foods and found that most commercial cat foods are made of animal byproducts instead of real meat and organs, and have lots of added grain and flavorings, which the prototypical feline diet would not have.

Here are some great alternative cat foods. Keep in mind if you make your own cat food you will need to supplement it with the essential amino acid Taurine that cats need to survive.

Natures Variety - this is the stuff i feed my cat - it is raw meaty bones and veg and quail and pheasant eggs that is either freezedried or frozen - the links on the left list all their cat and dog food. it isnt sold many places, but you can probably order it.

Wysong - i also feed my cat this - its an amazing raw meaty bone based food. It is the most expensive, but is designed by a vet and produced at his own manufacturing facility. They make a freezedried raw kibble that can be mixed with warm water for a nice stew. They make many formulations for many types of medical conditions. if it interests you, try out the 'introductory offer' for $30 which gets you two freezedried kibble bags, two wet cans, a supplement sprinkle, and information packet. http://www.wysong.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=WOTTPWS&Product_Code=SP10&Category_Code=SPEC&Product_Count=0

Evo - this is one brand of several made by Natura. Evo is almost all pure meat. the protein content is 50%, which may be contraindicated in certain cases. it has lots of healthy meat, bone and cartilage in it. http://www.evopet.com/products/

Innova - also by Natura. It is also cooked, but has very nice ingredients and more veggies in it. The price is good and it is way better than iams, eukanuba, or science diet. http://www.naturapet.com/brands/innova.asp

Felidae - http://www.canidae.com/cats/cat_and_kitten/dry.html

California Natural - also by Natura. for pets with lots of allergies. http://www.naturapet.com/brands/california-natural.asp

L-taurine sprinkle-on supplement. http://www.wysong.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=WOTTPWS&Product_Code=CALL_OF_THE_WILD&Category_Code=SUP&Product_Count=7

Meow Mix is GARBAGE. Cats are obligate carnivores and should be a fed with MEAT as the main ingredient and little to no grain. Blue Buffalo Wilderness, Innova Evo, Petcurean Go! Natural are all 45-50% meat protein and grain free. The better you feed your cat, the better it's coat quality will be as well. You should also add canned food to your cats daily diet as well. Adding a second Persian? I'm hoping you're keeping up with the grooming of the first one. They need to fully combed - not brushed - at least every other day all year long. Make sure you have time for both of these cats before getting another. edit: though RC Persian 30 is formulated for Persians it's hardly the healthiest food out there. It does contain grain and it's only 30% protein. I used to have this as one of the foods my cats ate and they got quite chubby from all the fillers in this food.

You should always feed your cat cat food. It is specially designed for the nutrients they need. If you want to be particular either buy Science Diet Naturals or ask your Vet. I own a Persian as well and I feed him normal cat food and wet foods on weekends as a treat if he's good.

Yeah! Cat food is fine for your kitty.
Well ' walmart brand has a good variety of wet food.
Their dry food, is good too.
All of my cats use both!
However, which ever you choose I don't recommend any dry food that contains dye in it {food coloring..}..
The dye makes Some cats really ill and they throw it up....They are allergic to the dye!
I have serveal like that, so I just stay from the dye food altogether!

Why not cat food? It is hard to cook and balance a good diet. Ask your vet for advice. Cats have very particular needs for certain nutrients such as taurine to prevent eye and heart problems.

If you don't want to feed your Persian commercial cat food there are several websites that offer recipes you can make yourself. One is called balanceit.com

You just need to make sure you are providing all of the nutrients that your kitty will need.

Good luck!

Not cat food, its horrible. Feed your cat fresh raw, high quality fish. And let it hunt if you live in a country type area.
