The goal was to stop communists - period , and Reagan did a better job of it than anyone. The Middle East was a completely different set of problems and circumstance.

B: Bitchard Nixon It was a poilicy that led to our support for the Shah of Iran and eventually turned that peaceful nation that had pretty much always been our friend into one of our most fervent enemies. I think communism in the middle east would be a lot better than Islamic fascisim.
