My dad had surgery earlier this week and he will not be able to work for about 3 months. Is there any kind of program that my parents can do to help get their bills paid and get their groceries and stuff like that.

Your dad can get disability pay. It's only 1/2 of what he normally would get, but it's something. I believe it's either through his employeer, insurances or perhaps a little of both.

My father had surgery about 6 weeks ago and he had to get disability. Another option, but only if you are desperate for cash, is to take money out of your 401K plan. You're taking money out of your future retirement plan, but it's better than going into debt or straving.
