Reading The Bible and Understanding The Bible are two completely different issues` , no matter how many times it is read , if you don`t understand what you`re reading , then whats` the point ? Maybe the word " Studied " should be substituted for the word "Read" ? I could read a book on Quantum Physics 20 times , but I wouldn`t understand it because I haven`t studied the subject in depth for any length of time !

That man may have read the bible nine times; who cares! He gets on a public forum and calls people "dumb *** Christians." He certainly is entitled to his opinion, but reading the bible does not make him an expert. If he does not believe the bible, so be it. However he does not come off as being very intelligent when he has to resort to name calling to make his point.

John what is your point?

Think on this proverb by Solomon:

Pr 26:4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
or you will be like him yourself.
Pr 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly,
or he will be wise in his own eyes.

If I knew this man or met him I would just keep right on keepin on. I have red the Bible and studied it for 25 years in several different versions and with a literal translation and a Hebrew and Greek dictionary. That information and approx $3.00 will get me a vente Americano at Starbucks.

But, my acceptance of Christ will give me a far greator reward that a cup o' coffee. His sacrafice for me (and not just me but all those that believe) will fill me with His Holy Spirit.

Gods word is plain about the difference between a natural man and a spiritual man
1Co 2:14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1Co 2:15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment:
1Co 2:16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord
that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
(NIV)

If this man read the bible and believed its pages he would understand that it is not just a book for reading, he would understand it is our sum and substance for life here on earth. A message of love for everyone of us on this earth by a Loving Father to His Children.

Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth
The B.I.B.L.E. Yep! that's the book for me.

Read prayerfully? Suggest to your friend that he read about Lectio Divina on http://www.osb.org

Father Michael Casey OCSO has written wonderful books on Lectio.. OCSO (what Father Merton was) is the cousin of OSB - Trappists also follow the Rule of St. Benedict, a great read..

Nine times? No. But there are several books in the Bible that I've read, independently, MUCH more than nine times.

No. (Sticks out Tongue!) spppppplllaaaasssssss!

I have just done a couple of Miracles (Commanded Miracles) fought satan for my Mind and Life, and Won (Thanky Jesus), then Recieved some Really Good Songs from GOD Almighty (He just gives'em to me, all I have to do is write them down---in the evil world the Parallel to this would be spirit-writing, but I get My Songs from the Holy Spirit so it is O.K. to do this).

Then my ankle was Healed Instantly, oh, I can do some of the Prophets stuff (but not a Prophet).

Nope, haven't Read the Entire Bible YET, but hope to one day.

(did I tell you how the Evangelist's Car (with him and his wife) was transported Instantly across Town?
This was the Evangelist GOD sent across my Path when I prayed by myself for GOD to use me and my Talents (sing and play guitar)--that Evangelist called the next day on the Phone, right outta the Blue--never seen him befor in my Life.

Will hope to read all of the Bible one Day, Thanks for Asking!
GOD Bless!

Not from cover to cover. That is a waste of time. The best way to read the Bible is to pick a subject and read everything that the Bible says about that subject.

I have certainly read parts of the Bible 9 times.

There are people in this world who live the most fantastic, effective lives without ever once contemplating god, or religion, and there are devout Christians who spend their entire lives being depressed, bitter and miserable.

How is this possible?

Life is a human experience that requires nothing more than attending to human affairs and concerns with 100% focus, effort and determination.

If anything awaits us after we are dead, then we can deal with it then, and know with complete confidence that we did the best possible job as human beings while we were alive.

I could not tell you. I don't read in a prescribed order as my goal is spiritual understanding not attempting to see how many times I can finish it. I have read many of the books many times over without keeping count... some more than others.

To really understand a book in the bible, catching its message, I've heard it said you have to read it at least 30 times !
