Oh, well thanks for asking! That's a lot nicer than other people. Well, the "black box" is called the Kaaba. There isn't really anything inside of it. There used to be. We believe that Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) (Peace be Upon Him) built the Kaaba with his son, as a symbol of the Throne of God on Earth. I think at that time, it had just the basics of a room (I might be wrong). After a while, idol-worshipers took it over. They put idols and stuff like that in it. Then the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) took back the Kaaba which was rightfully the Muslims' and got rid of the idols and converted the idol-worshipers to Islam (not forcefully). I don't think there is anything in there now. O hope I helped!

Kind of amazing how sad some of these comments are. I personally don't like Islam because I was persecuted by Muslims for my own Christian beliefs, but it's still sad to see people be so disrespectful to something many people consider very sacred.
Sorry to get off topic but this is a question I've had about Islam for a while. If I remember correctly, Muslims believe in the story of Moses. That would mean they believe in the 10 commandments. The 1st of the 10 commandments say to not have any other Gods before me which was referring mostly to idol worship. But Muslims pray to the Kaaba which is a form of an idol, isn't that breaking the 1st commandment? Also the Gihad kinda breaks the 6th commandment of not killing others. If Islam doesn't believe in the 10 commandments that's one thing, but if they do it seems like there are some serious contradictions. I'm just looking at it logically so someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I am by no means an expert in Islam, I'm also not trying to be disrespectful, just trying to understand.

Mecca was a sacred city before Islam, the pre-Islamic Arab culture whorshipped many Gods, and thier idols were kept there. When a new religion arises, it often incorporates rituals of the old. There are numerous examples, for instance, of Christianity incorporating pegan rituals. Islam incorporated the pilgrimage to Mecca, but ret-conned in a myth that the Ka'aba was built by Abraham.

A black rock that fell from space at some time. Meccans used to worship idols at the site. It is at the centre of that huge well-lit mosque in Mecca, and seems to be the physical focus of the Hajj.

The space represents the spot where Abraham and his son Ishmael built an altar to God.
Abraham and Ishmael are the fathers of Islam. (Just as Abraham and his other son Isaac are the fathers of Judaism and Christianity.)

The Ka'aba. It incorporates not only idols, but a black stone that pilgrims kiss, and a gold plaque inscribed with a text from the Vikramaditya, also found recorded on page 315 of a volume known as ‘Sayar-ul-Okul’ treasured in the Makhtab-e-Sultania library in Istanbul, Turkey. Rendered in free English the inscription says:
"Fortunate are those who were born (and lived) during king Vikram’s reign. He was a noble, generous dutiful ruler, devoted to the welfare of his subjects. But at that time we Arabs, oblivious of God, were lost in sensual pleasures. Plotting and torture were rampant. The darkness of ignorance had enveloped our country. Like the lamb struggling for her life in the cruel paws of a wolf we Arabs were caught up in ignorance. The entire country was enveloped in a darkness so intense as on a new moon night. But the present dawn and pleasant sunshine of education is the result of the favour of the noble king Vikramaditya whose benevolent supervision did not lose sight of us- foreigners as we were. He spread his sacred religion amongst us and sent scholars whose brilliance shone like that of the sun from his country to ours. These scholars and preceptors through whose benevolence we were once again made cognisant of the presence of God, introduced to His sacred existence and put on the road of Truth, had come to our country to preach their religion and impart education at king Vikramaditya’s behest."
It is believed to commemorate the conversion of the Arabs to Hinduism, long before the coming of Islam.

There are idols inside of it. When Muhammad came to Mecca he found some three hundred plus gods in it and he had them all removed except the mother and child ones.
