The lease on my 2005 Honda Civic EX is up in October, and I have to decide whether or not to buy it or to get something else. I'm thinking about getting a (small) SUV to get some height and presence on the road. But, then again, I love Civics and the new ones are lookin' good. Or, I could just buy the one I have. I've looked at the Jeep website and am thinking about a Compass, but I've heard mixed reviews. I don't go offroad, so a Wrangler would be pointless (although I love them). And, obviously, gas mileage is a big issue. Not looking to go over $20k. Any suggestions/insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Get the heaviest vehicle you can for safety. A few hundred extra pounds of vehicle weight could save your life. Vehicle safety ratings only apply within a car class such as subcompact, compact, medium and large sized cars.
The worst large sized car safety rating is much better than the best subcompact car safety rating. In my opinion, drive a vehicle that weighs at least 3,000 pounds. It's like taking an insurance policy out on your life.

The new '07 Civic EX is around $19K with a 5-speed and nearing $20K with an automatic. So if you get a new civic, you're almost breaking the bank. But the '07 compass is only $17K and it comes with 4 wheel drive and gets 25/29 mpg, which is good for a 4WD small suv. Another option to consider with the compass is the '07 Jeep Patriot. It's only $16K for a 4WD model and gets 25/29 mpg. But, I would not consider the Jeep Wrangler because it only gets 17/19 mpg and it costs more then the compass and the patriot. So, I would either...

- Stick with the Civic you got
or...
- Get the Jeep Compass or Patriot

maybe you could lease the new civic which i heard is a very good car, but please don't get a SUV, no matter what, and if you haven't been paying attention to the news, its getting hotter now a days due to global warming (CO2 emission level rising, why? big SUVs everywhere) and gas price is going up also? So if you think about why get an SUV if you're not even going to go offroad, the soul purpose of an SUV is to go offroad, not in the city, so I say civic my friend!! thats just my opinion ( I have the new 07 civic coupe and i do love that car)

If you don't really need the room, I would definitely stay with a Civic. Not having to worry about it costing $50-$100 to fill up a tank of gasoline is a good thing. Gas prices are more than likely to go up than down.

Don't get a SUV. You don't need one, so why waste all that money on gas that you could save and use it for something else. So, if those two are your options, i say stay with the Civic.

Personally, I love SUVs. Once you go SUV, you'll never go back!!!!!!!!!
My 2003 Toyota Rav4 gets excellent gas mileage - even better than my old car!
A small SUV would be perfect for you.
