I had an eye exam the other day and my prescription has changed. I now require progressive lenses, whereas before my eyeglasses were just for reading. As my new eyeglasses are about 10 days away, could someone please tell me, based on the following prescription, what stock standard diaopeter glasses I should get, for reading until my new eyeglasses arrive? Trying to do computer work and reading at the moment is a nightmare.

Right - Sphere +150 Cylinder -100 Axis 5 Add +100
Left - Sphere +150 Cylinder -100 Axis 5 Add +100

The basic formula is the power is equal to one over the distance in meters. Something focused a meter away would be 1/1 or +1.00. A half meter away or 1/ one half would be a +2.00. You are farsighted 1.50, which means you have to crank in that much to see at a DISTANCE, and then crank in another 1.00 to see at a meter. A book would be about a third of a meter away. So for you, you'd accomodate 1.50, then another 3. It's no wonder you get sleepy after 20 minutes when reading. The "add" is the amount of power on top of your normal power that's being given so you can see near. According to your Rx, it's a +1.00 above and beyond the 1.50, therefore a 2.50 would be about right.

For you, get about a 2.50 or so. It'll be a bit funny looking because it won't correct your astigmatism, but it'll be fairly clear and not too tiring.

You wouldn't benefit very much with the stock readers because you have a diopter of astigmatism. But since you have to get by until your glasses are ready your reader prescription would be +2.50. You just add the "add" power to your sphere power. That would be your full reading prescription. For computer use that may be too strong for you to see the screen clearly...you may need a slightly weaker one for your intermediate vision. Depending on the distance of your computer screen you may want to try a +2.00 or +1.75 for computer use.
Hopefully your new progressives come soon because you will have all the distances in one lens :) many people are very satisfied with them :) good luck :)

Just go to Walgreens or whatever large drugstore chain is in your neck of the woods and go to the rack where they have reading glasses and keep trying on different strengths until the sample fine print on the stand becomes readable, then buy those. For about $20.00.

did they make the display seem sharper ? studying glasses are for up near, pc glasses consciousness out extra. Are you sitting up near ? get an eye fixed examination, Costco is $forty five I consider. then you are going to recognize for certain.

Most liekely a +2.00 would work for your reading, and a +1.50 for the computer, although neither will be perfect becuase they will not corect for your astigmatism.

Until You get your glasses I would just tell you to get some plain reading glasses you get in any drug store, or use the ones you have til the other ones are ready. good reading1

i would recommend that you go to the store try on different strengths of glasses and look at magazines hold the magazine exactly as you would normally and see which strength you feel comfortable with.
