Where I am currently living there are at least seven sex offenders also. One is a level 3 offeneder. All you can do is watch your children and let them know that a bad man lives near you.

If there is a restriction that they can't live near kids then you can. Just tell you re kids and never leave them alone.

I have one near me but he was with a 13 year old and he was 14. He was accused of rape at that age. I found this out from ans officer that I know. The guy has to reg for the rest of his life. I am not afraid that he will do any thing.

So just find out all that you can on him and see if he is Even a threat. I think that you can go to you re court house and get his records that should tell you what he actual was accused of.
Knowledge is the best way to protect you re self

Well first you should look him up on line to see what he did. Registered sex offender can mean many things they are not all nessecarily child molestors. I would want that info first than you can decide what kind of safety plan you need if any. If it really bothers you and you can you could move otherwise if this person is a pedophile you should make sure the children are supervised outside at all times.

Print his picture off the internet and show it to your kids so they can recognize him. Then point out his house. And tell them that if the man ever talks to them that they don't talk back and run right home (although with small kids, they probably aren't out of your sight, but eventually they will get older).

You can check the laws in your community to see if he's living too close to a school or something else that would make him have to move. But other than that, just be happy that at least you know who he is, what he looks like, and where he lives.

I remember a story on the news about a sex offender in California who just got out of prison and was going home. His house just happened to catch fire before he could move it.

From the stats offenders have a 98% recitivism rate. Be extremely careful. Inform all of your neighbors with or without kids.

A good many registered sex offenders currently out of prison and in society are generally no longer a threat. Some have things as simple as exposure, statutory rape when they were a teen, etc. You cannot judge a sex offender just because he/she is registered as one.

Yes, there are chances for a relapse but I'd strongly urge parents to do their homework before shunning these people. Sometimes a simple offense at 19 means a lifetime of people judging them, whispering, cruelty, hatred, and disrespect...without every truly knowing what they did in the first place! Very, very, very rarely are the police going to release a violent offender onto the streets near children.

I'm all for protecting children but there's no need to live in fear from someone who has done their time and wishes to live peacefully and quietly. You leave them alone, they'll do the same.

EDIT:

Yea, thumbs me down all you want you paranoid freaks. I don't condone the actions of a sex offender but I am not going to shun someone because of those actions. Education is what's important. Not pre-judging someone based on something they did.

Use the sex offender list to anonymously harrass the sex offender.

Fun things to do. Dead at night go to a child molester house where the cops can't easily see and spray pain child rapist.

Kick the door in with masks and beat the **** out a child molester.

All you can do is watch your kids, also note if he/she is hanging out near schools or playgrounds, most offenders can't be near those areas. Unfortunately there aren't many neighborhoods with out them now a days.

every city by law is reqiured to have a sex offender data base go online and find that website pull that persons name,(first and last) offense, and age of victim then circulate your own neighborhood letter dont count on the property managers they don't give a damn who they rent to as long as they are getting paid a lot of the times they wont disclose it at all...you completely within the legal limit to do what I said...I've done it before and the neighborhood was very appreciative

I bought a house, and then found out a week later I was three doors down from one.

The property management knew, and said they legally could do nothing, although in our same city, police officers went door to door notifying neighbors about one particular registered offender that had moved in. So I printed out the information on him from the Megans Law website. I made 100 copies, and passed them out to all the neighbors. (About 30-40% have children!) I also put his picture up on the fridge for a few days, and pointed him, his house, and his vehicle out to my daughter.

He moved out 3 months later. They count on anonimity, and people being afraid to confront them or "discriminate" against them. All I care about are the kids, so my personal opinion is F*** them and their rights. We have the right to know who they are and protect our children from them - that's what the Registered Sex Offender program was designed for.

While I agree that there are some perfectly decent people who simply got busted for having sex with their 17 year old girlfriend at 18, that's not who most of them are. And the answerer above was right - most repeat their offenses.

Also, don't forget about the ones you don't know about, because they're not registered...
