First, the Church doesn't "make" anyone a saint, though I realize that term is commonly used. The Church only officially recognizes that certain individuals are in fact saints, that is, that they are in fact in heaven. Pope John Paul II will undoubtedly be canonized since he is one of holiest and wisest men who has ever served God's Church in this capacity, and has produced some of the most profound teaching of any pope in history. His life was a rare example of Christlike compassion and love for all mankind.

He didn't do anything all that great. Sainthood should be for people who act in extraordinary ways under difficult circumstances.
Sure, he was better than the Nazi Youth guy they have now, but puh-leeze. No miracles, no great acts of charity, no particular powers, not even stigmata.
People should not be rewarded for merely doing their job. There's nothing saintly about that.
It would be a real slap in the face to the whole concept of sainthood if you got to be a saint just because you got Employee of the Month. I didn't find him particularly inspiring, especially when he made that deal with Reagan to rout out rabblerousers in Central America. And the condom bit was bad form, too. He had a chance to take a big group of people in a new direction, really change some minds.
And he did...bupkus. Way to go, dude. You're the leader of a church with kablillions of people and...I can't think of anything outstanding from your reign.
Mother Teresa, sure. She lived in a hellhole and took care of LEPERS. She made a huge impact with very little money or resources--she really brought a lot of attention and care to desperately needy people.
Angelina Jolie would be a better candidate than JPII.

you're mixing your religious teachings between Catholic and Protestant. Catholics do no longer take the word "born returned" to propose an identical situation as Protestants. additionally, Catholics and Protestants do no longer interpret the Bible interior an identical way in any respect. of direction Pope John Paul II did no longer circulate to hell. you are able to in basic terms circulate to hell via making options against God and picking to circulate there your self considering which you do unlike God. that's Catholic coaching. I doubt that all and sundry exists who ought to think of for a 2nd that JPII did no longer love God.

We can't. Either he was in life or he will never be. Saint simply means set apart one and is generally used to describe Gods people who believe and obey their maker and Savior and finisher of their faith Yahshua the Messiah.

No. He didn't go far enough in his efforts to stop the Holocaust. He encouraged Hitler to spare the Catholics and he did. What about non-believers? What is the Church doing to stop the genocide occurring in Darfur, Sudan today at this very minute while we sit at our computers?

Yes. He has upheld the gospel and lived an exemplary life. He suffered under both Nazism and communism.
The whole purpose of sainthood is to show us examples of ordinary humans who were extraordinary people and lived out the gospel message in their lives.
