If what you want is how to write "sun" with kanji (Japanese character), then this is it:
http://japanese.about.com/bl50kanji_taiyou.htm
There's also one kanji that ideographicaly conveys the idea of sun, but its also used for other things. If used to represent sunday (as the day of week) it is read as nichi and bi (its used twice, the word is nichiyoobi). it also has other readings
its the first kanji on this site:
http://japanese.about.com/blkanji7.htm
the characters for "japan" used in the example really mean "the origin of the sun", as japan is the land where you first see the sunrise. The other kanji is 'hon' (japan is actually read nihon), with the meaning book, origin.

i would not trust anything you get off yahoo answers, watch someone translate a swear word or something and you tattoo that to yourself :P "Japanese symbols" are called Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana (depending on the alphabet your using, Kanji is the traditional Chinese block characters with many strokes, whish is used in Japan a lot, Hiragana is traditional Japanese, and Katakana is used for things like sound affects and foreign words that have the sound taken along with the meaning, things like "hamburger" and whatnot.

It's like a vertical rectangle with an horizontal line in the middle (not crossing the borders). It looks like an 8 in a digital watch, a square 8.

It's 太陽(taiyou).
日(hi, nichi) standing for "day" can also be use to represent the "sun".
Fore example, 日光(nikkou) is sunlight.
