Our young female cat recently had a litter that had 2 kittens in it. She moved them and now one has a little hole where it's umbilical cord used to be. And the other one has a bloody foot and also a bloody tail but it's better now. I think it is because the mother licks them too often. The kitten with the hole in it's stomach is always really wet in that spot. They seem to be walking around and are acting fine, but they are always wet and bloody. What should we do about this and could the mother eventually kill them by over-cleaning them?

The mother is very friendly now, but she used to be jumpy around us, despite the fact that our other cat raised her on our property. Should we stop handling them? They were never like this until we started holding them.

If a kitten has any injury it should go to the Vet immediately since they are more prone to infections and diseases. It seems unusual that they have these types of injuries at such a young age. The mother cleaning them has nothing to do with it. Its natural and she does this to keep them clean to prevent illnesses and to stimulate them to go potty. If the mother was jumpy when you started to handle them, then you shouldnt have handled them. You should only handle them if she is comfortable with you handling them. They are like babies so make sure that if you are handling them that your hands are clean and that the mother is ok with it. But before anything, take them to a vet right away before they get an infection. Kittens take infections badly since their immune systems are still developing. Good Luck & i Hope your kittens will be ok.

The hole in the abdomen is very serious. The kitten can develop peritonitis and die from this. It can be fixed if not too late. The other kitten has obvious injuries if it is bleeding. Infection is a huge concern. These problems are not from the mom grooming the kittens. Please take the to the vet as suggested.

Wow....these kittens need a vet asap, and the parents need to be fixed before it's too late, again.
I would stop handling them until you take them in since you could be making them worse and the mother could be trying to wash your scent from handling them off the kittens.

With kittens you don't want to be too risky... I don't usually say this, because too many people jump to the gun, but I say take them to the vet. Kittens can get ill and die so, so easily. I've had many kittens in my care (my cat had a few litters in her day) and when they got ill, it would go downhill fast if we weren't careful. I don't like to be over-protective, but go ahead and go to the vet's office.

They need a veterinarian. It's not good to be wet and bloody or have a hole in your tummy.

A hole in the stomach? Get them to your vet asap! I don't think it has to do with over licking them. Please take these little ones to the dr today.
