Splitter works on Coax. Component cables have 5 cables. I am looking for someone who successfully cabled using a video out function on the Directv box or the TV, which by the way is a 50" plasma. So it has a ton of connection capabilities.

On the back of the HDTV there should be video and audio out connectors. You can use a cable from these connectors to another TV set.

OR

Depending on the output source going to the input (Component cables) of the HDTV there probably are other outputs available. Like S-Video or Composite Video (RCA type) Anyone of these could be taken to another TV.

You should not split Composite video with a BNC splitter. Audio is OK but NOT video. You could buy a lost cost distribution amp from Radio Shack or similar vendor.
