If you are open to an alternative, here is a way to rid your self of a skunk.. permanently, and let it live as well..
Get a live trap from your neighborly game and fish...wrap it in a dark, heavy duty trash bag in such a way that the door still functions,...bait it with tuna fish or sardines or some other attractant, and when the skunk sets to trap off, close the bag around the door, haul it to the other side of a drainage, and release it.
A shot skunk will spray...
A fright end skunk will spray...
A defensive skunk will spray...
But a skunk in a enclosed tight space is just as offended by it's odor as we are...so it will with hold it's 'gift' and allow you to do what you will need to do.
When it is free..pick up your trap and your problem is solved...no death...no spray...no aftermath...no injury...no problem.

Yeah, you can but unless it is causing a problem, I'd leave it alone. If you do decide to shoot it, first go to the nearest drug store and get some Masingil duche powder. I have it from good authority that it will remove the skunk stink from clothes and your body. A good friend uses it to remove the skunk stink from her dogs.

As long as you're in an area where it's legal to shoot, since they're considered a nuisance. Be careful, though, to make sure they're not a protected species of skunk. Call your local fish and game officer. He'll be happy to help you, rather than arrest you.

Yes you can shoot it and/or trap it. It is a fur bearer and you might be able to shoot it all year, depending on the state.

You cant in Illinois. They're protected ( saves Politicians lives this way)
However, as soon as you kill one, be ready for the odor. They let loose when they die and if it is between you and easy retreat, you will get a treat.

Generally I think furbearers are traped rather than shot.
