It is up to you. If you check with your vet they will tell you the same. Either in moderation as an addition to his Kibble or moist food. I mix mine with the kibble so he gets the nutrients required from the kibble and gets his rice as well . My dog is an Akita and he really likes white rice better than the brown. He will eat a whole pot of rice if you let him LOL. Try not to give it to him while it is hot, let it cool down and keep water away from him for at least an hour after eating. That goes really for any meal time. Water is not good for a dog especially a deep chested dog within an hour or two ( preferably two) after eating a large meal. It can lead to bloating which can be deadly to a dog.

Yes, it is fine. I have taken care of under fed and abused dogs in the past and it is really good (though expensive) to feed them lean cooked ground beef mixed with cooked white rice. They could actually eat this everyday and it would be ok, but it would get mighty expensive, however it does make a good, healthy, delicasy to them. It really helps put weight on them too if they are under weight like some of the dogs I have encountered. Just be sure that he isn't missing out on other nutrients because of his liking for rice and you two will be just fine!

in response to ur question - white rice is good but too much may also cause ur dog to become overweight
as for spazzcat's response - white rice is not "bleached" you do not "bleach" food - it is gently milled to get the outcoat of bran off - bran is healthy for the body so brown rice is also good because it has the outlayer, bran. However more ppl eat white rice because long ago - white rice is a rich man's food and brown rice is peasent food - now people just like white rice how it is and white rice has become affordable to everyone.

Sure dogs can eat white rice. They have it in some of the wet dog foods.
I use to have to feed my dog boiled chicken and rice when she got sick, the vet told me to do this. She had a bad medical issue going on at the time so that was why he told me to feed her that. She got hooked on it and didn't want to go back to dog food after she was better. She was lol 'ing the little turkey, boy did she get spoiled.

Yes it is good as long as they are eating a regular diet also. Greyhounds at race tracks are regularly fed rice, pasta, cooked vegetables, and canned mackerel. Most dogs will go crazy for the mackerel. I would make sue that it is plain rice only. Fried rice or flavored rices could have way to much salt and additives.

White rice is not going to hurt your dog, but it is empty calories--no nutritrional value. If he fills up on the white rice, he won't have room for other food, and will not get the nutrients (vitamins and other things) that he needs. Think about people--if all you ate was white rice, you'd die of malnutrition, but rice with other things is fine.

Yup.
In fact a lot of dog food has rice mixed up in it. Just remember he needs more than carbs, so dont just feed him rice.

Big difference between "good for" and "is it ok to feed".
Is it ok to feed? Yes, if it's well cooked.
Is it good for them? Not really. Not really good for us either. LOL! There's not a lot of nutritional value in white rice, so as long as your dog doesn't have yeast problems (itchy, smelly ears, oily skin or patches of bare skin), then there shouldn't be a problem with giving it occasionally.
In the winter, I often cook up a big pot of doggie stew with meat, veggies, pasta and rice... cook til it's one big mushy mess, but it's a great treat for them occasionally.

its OK to feed your dog it won't hurt him/her, but check out other rice besides white it has the lowest nutritional value of all the rices....but most dog food brands use it as an ingredient, so it's OK to feed him.....PS. if you want to brighten his/her coat up some, just add a raw egg to that dinner a couple times a week and you will see some beautiful sheen and he/her will love the flavor and it's good for him/her

Ground rice flour is actually a staple ingredient in many dog foods. Its a simple starch and fine for most mamals (inc. dogs) to ingest. Brown rice however, has more nutritional value. But yes, your dog may continue to eat rice and he'll be healthy and fine.
