Bottom line: Yes in England, Wales & Scilly Isles. but hey there is a lot of guessing and wrong information being given on here with people mixing up old rules and regulations. The Licensing Act 2003 allows a 16 or 17 yr old person to drink beer, wine or cider PROVIDED THAT the drink is purchased by an adult i.e over 18 AND the 16 / 17 yr old is having a proper 'table ' ie. substantial, meal AND the adult, ie. an over 18 STAYS and supervises the drinking and meal consumption. The adult does not themselves have to have a drink or a meal.
As for some of the other information various people have contributed. There are no longer any situations where other under 18yr olds can drink in licensed premises, references to 14 yr olds have changed, there are no longer separate restaurant licences. The appropriate age to consider about being in licensed premises is now 16yrs. Unaccompanied under 16yrs CAN be in premises with the managements permission provided alcohol is not the main feature at the time but they can't be in under16 on their own between midnight & 5.00 a.m. If they are under 16 and with an adult, ie. over 18 there is no prohibition at any time.
The age limit for very young children in the home is that you can not legally give any alcohol to a person UNDER 5yr except for medicinal purposes or on doctors orders.
Added later:
Sects 149 & 150 LA 2003 - ( deals with the rules about ages for drinking alcohol, and 16 / 17 yr olds limited ability to drink but not buy when having meals etc.)
Sect 145 LA 2003 - ( deals with the under / over 16 yr old accompanied / unaccompanied issues )

Young people aged 16 or 17 can drink beer, wine or cider with a meal if it is bought by an adult and they are accompanied by an adult.
It is illegal for this age group to drink spirits in pubs even with a meal
Children under 16 can go anywhere in a pub as long as they are supervised by an adult, but cannot have any alcoholic drinks.
However some premises may be subject to licensing conditions preventing them from entering, for example pubs which have experienced problems with underage drinking
It is legal for adults to buy alcohol for children over four to drink in the home

If someone 18 or over buys the alcohol, then at 16 you can have a drink with the meal.

It is also an offence for a person under 18 years to consume alcohol on licensed premises. but someone under 18 can run a pub, and serve it if they have supervision from an adult. Don't ask me why.

No. They can be in the pub with their parents, but cannot be served alcohol. The legal age to drink alcohol is 18 years.

it is unlawful to furnish an alcoholic drink to a infant decrease than 5 different than decrease than medical supervision in an emergency. toddlers decrease than sixteen can bypass right into a pub as long as they are supervised via an grownup, yet can't have any alcoholic beverages. young ones elderly sixteen or 17 can drink beer, wine or cider with a meal in a pub or eating place no count if it is bought via an grownup and that they are observed via an grownup. At domicile - as quickly as your infant has began ingesting, help them study to do it properly, suggestion from the government's chief medical Officer is that toddlers decrease than 15 shouldn't drink in any respect.

Yes, in the UK. An over 18 has to be present and pay for the meal and the child so to speak has to be over 14. They are allowed one unit of alcohol. Another useful fact is that anyone over the age of 5 can drink alcohol in their home. Bizarre but that's what they teach us in school (Citizenship lessons).

if the 'pub' has a restaurant license at 14 you can drink alcohol with a meal but not spirits ,only wine beer and perries, including cider. At 16 you may purchase alcohol ,again not spirits but only if table served. To buy alcohol at a bar you MUST be 18. (uk)
