That is an excellent question! It is also a very good point! Since the Bible teaches that Jesus is the Son of God, and God is Jehovah, then we can reason that the angel was sent by Jehovah to strengthen his Son. We know that if Jesus were God, he would be Almighty and would need strength from no one, since no one else could possibly be powerful enough to strengthen God. Jesus did exist in God's form, (he was a spiritual person before he became human and God is spirit also, but the Bible does not say that he was God, there is a very big difference between God and Jesus...that of Father to Son. It will be so wonderful when the earth is filled with the very knowledge of God and all these common misconceptions are acknowledged as just that, misconceptions! Jesus said...

(John 17:3) "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.”

The Bible also says...

(Ezekiel 38:23) "And I shall certainly magnify myself and sanctify myself and make myself known before the eyes of many nations; and they will have to know that I am Jehovah.’”

So very soon now, everyone will know that Jehovah is God Almighty, the Sovereign Lord of the Universe, and Jesus is the now reigning King of God's Kingdom!

Well i see that you have gotten several pretty good answers, i was just going to respond to > if the human Jesus were fully God, ? well point blank NO human is God.

then > why was it necessary for an angel to strengthen him? , because Jesus was made a human being just like us, and he was tempted in all manners like we are, that is how he became our Kinsman Redeemer, because although Jesus was tempted he did not give in to temptation to sin. And so facing the hard reality of what he knew was coming as much as he wanted to do God's will , it was hard for him to willingly put himself into the hands of mankind knowing they would kill him. Being a willing sacrifice is not an easy thing to do.

According to the Scriptures Jesus prayed 3 times about it that night, and he had asked the others to pray with him but they fell asleep. i believe that Jesus needed comfort and assurance from God that the time was right and that this was truely what God wanted Jesus to do.

You've already been given various good answers. I just wonder if you are struggling with this verse due to not fully appreciating what it meant for the Son of God to die, physically. In his pre-human existence, his hands had flung stars into space. Now those divine hands were about to be nailed to a wooden instrument of torture. In his pre-human existence, his spiritual heart had ached for the people he had created who were wandering far from him. Now his human heart was about to be literally broken by some of those people he loved and was going to die for. No wonder God sent an angel to minister at this crucial hour to his beloved Son! If Jesus had not been assured his Father wanted him to drink that cup to the dregs, he could have faltered, and the whole plan of redemption could have stalled. Satan was right there in the Garden of Gethsemane, tempting Christ to fail. Thank God for that angel! We may never know whether Christ would have gone through with his sacrifice without that angel or not, but if the Son of God needed angelic help, how much more so do we!

22:42 Saying: Father, if thou wilt, remove this chalice from me: but yet not my will, but thine be done.

22:43. And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony, he prayed the longer.

22:44. And his sweat became as drops of blood, trickling down upon the ground.

22:45. And when he rose up from prayer and was come to the disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow.

22:46. And he said to them: Why sleep you? Arise: pray: lest you enter into temptation.

Jesus was the son of man. He was also the son of God. He struggled, as we do, with that part of him that was human and weak, and sometimes he needed some help from the Father, just like us.

I didn't understand your question. But i think your asking ,if Jesus was God, why would he need to be strengthened?
Did you misread, or not understand the verse before 43?
If you would of read it proper.
You would see jesus is praying to his father (God) .
And besides, Jesus never claimed to be God. All jesus said, is that his father(God) and him are one. Meaning one in mind and spirit.

Because humans need angels to strenghten US.

Jesus would not have been fully human, and experienced everything that a human goes through, if he did not take upon himself human weakiness.

You might as well ask why God in human form (I.E.; Jesus) had to eat, sleep, drink, be born, etc.

Because being human, He also had feelings. Remember the bible says that we do not have a high priest who is unmindful of our weaknesses....but He was tested in every way that we are, but was without sin.

Throughout the gospels, Jesus is shown to have the same feelings as we about many things; anger at hypocrisy (the Pharisees), sorrow at death (Lazarus), fear at death (the Garden, before His arrest).

That is why we can trust Him with our lives; He knows us imtimately.

"Christ Jesus... being in very nature God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God but made himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross." -Philippians 2:5-8

He was also a man. A different translation says He "emptied Himself" of His divine qualities. He knew hurt and pain and fear. That is why He can sympathize with our weaknesses and be our advocate.

"For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:15-16

I am all the more amazed at the strength and courage of Jesus to complete His mission when I realize that He suffered and was afraid just like I would be, but chose to do it anyway.

Right before Christ said the verse LineDancer quotes, he said this one. "Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done." As a companion question to LD's, I want to know why a being such as Christ who came from heaven, who for all intents and purposes is god, if not the essence of god, who knows life is eternal, who knows the glory of heaven, would be such a wimp when it came to physical death. Of all beings, why would he be afraid? Why wouldn't he say, Here am I, Here am I, I'm ready. Do me this great favor, get me out of this godforsaken place, and let me go home? I find this offensive behavior and frankly do not believe he said it.

Jesus and [his father] THE LORD, Jehovah, GOD, [etc] aren't the same "person" [if you will] Jesus is GODS Son. and also in heaven, Jesus sits at the right hand of GOD. Jesus prayed to his father. If they were the same why would he need to pray to himself.

People who believe in the Trinity do not clearly understand the bible.
