Put some vinigar around it. It also should work if you pour it on the pot.

Have you heard of clicker training? The clicker is a little thing you carry with you that makes a clicking sound. You use at a form of praise, it works well because its the same consistent sound and there is no chance the dog will be confused. What you want to do is get the clicker and teach the dog a command, when he complies, click and immediately give him a treat and praise. This will condition the dog to assosciate the click with a treat and he knows he is doing good. I taught my dog to stay away from my things I didn't want him near by practicing. I put a sock, or some other item, (in your case the pot) on the floor and say "no" when he would get near it I would tug the leash and say "no." Eventually he wouldn't go near it and he would get a click and a treat. It took a while, but eventually he got it. Now, when there is a sock on the floor he will just longing look at it, or just walk around it wihtout getting too close, but he knows not to touch it. I hope that this made sense.

Try putting pennies or rocks onto an empty coke can and when he goes near the pots shake the can, this will scare him. You might also try keeping a leash on him with a choke collar and grab the leash when he starts to go near the pots (you don't have to pull, he will apply the pressure himself). I have used both of these methods and they worked well for me.

You will need to regularly be with your dog on a long line in the yard. When the dog goes near the pots, call the dog to you, praise and then reward.

I would stay with the puppy for awhile and every time he goes near them, pull him back and give him a firm command. I like "no!" but I hear others in the obedience classes I took my dog to say "leave it!" a lot.
Remember he's not going to learn the command or even the offense on the first couple of time. Have patience and remember to be consistant.

Well, you can put some wire up around it I guess... but maybe if you are out there with him and see him go near the pots you can spary him with a water bottle. This works for our dog Boggs. Eventually he'll get the idea.

Try walking your dog on a leash in your backyard. As soon as he goes for the plants give him a quick tug and let him know that you don't want him to do it. Have him sit next to the plants on his leash.
You have to show the dog where you allow him to go and where he is not allowed.
