why is it that every time a skeptic brings up the inexcusable absurdity of the old testament god:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhIU.f8WZ0tW1R6Z4DZ0fJnsy6IX?qid=20070531110853AAGy56G&show=7#profile-info-AA11464702
christians knowingly skirt the issue, and they point out that mosiac law has been set aside by jesus?
skeptics are well aware that christian theology says that.
why can't you give a straight answer and truly explain why god would be so perverse in the first place?
nevermind that "jesus made those laws no longer in effect,"
we wan't to know why the hell they were in effect in the first place!!

this is exactly what i thought.
if, in some weird way, "god" really exists, he gave u such a silly bible to see if you would sinfully cling to outrageous apologetics because it made you more personally secure that you would recieve an eternity in heaven. shame on all of you.

I think you are very confused.
Jesus came not to change the law but to fulfill it.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we as Christians don't fully understand our own God anyway so how on earth can we explain that to other people? I personally find it comforting that he doesn't make sense because I wouldn't want the ruler of the universe to be comprehensible to me.
Also, Christianity today is very focused on the loving side of God because that's what our generation wants to hear. A century ago it was all fire and brimstone because that's what made sense to them then. I don't think God has changed, we've just decided to focus on different aspects of him. We do the same things to people in our lives over time. Who hasn't loved a friend one day for his generosity and despised him the next for being a back-stabber? Two opposing sides to the same person.
But, to officially stop skirting the issue, I would guess that the cultural values at the time this stuff was written were so different that rules had to be put in place to help people survive. The rape verse you referred to might have to do with that girl being socially outcast for the rest of her life as a result of being raped, most likely left to die. That's not the case today so we wouldn't force a girl's rapist to marry her.
I bet if you asked an expert they could logically explain why some of the seemingly weirder laws are in place by giving you an idea of what life was like at that time. If you're really curious (and go into it with a non-judgmental attitude) you may be happily surprised by what you find out.

Believers do not look at the Bible the same way amatuer historians do.
The extracts from the Talmud and Torah that were accepted into our King James version of the Bible have much that was carried forward from the ancient Jews. The Law of that day worked for those people and gives some framwork for validity for the current Bible. And everything that seems contradictary or unpleasant can be dismissed with "Jesus changed all that".
Don't try to argue with True Believers. Belief is Faith and faith is, by it's nature, antithetical to science.

You for sure have not study the previous testomony. each and every observe written contained in the Bible is actuality . there is no longer something contained in the Mosaic regulation positioned asisde by employing Jesus..... Matthew 5:17 -18 think of no longer that i'm come to break the regulation, or the prophets: i'm no longer come to break, yet to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, until eventually heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no smart pass from the regulation, until eventually all be fulfilled. all the OT factors to Jesus Christ the Holy Messiah of Israel..... Luke 24:40 4 And he reported unto them, those are the words which I spake unto you, on an analogous time as i exchange into yet with you, that one and all issues could desire to be fulfilled, that have been written contained in the regulation of Moses, and contained in the prophets, and contained in the psalms, on the subject of me. there is no situation skirted right here. you in ordinary terms desire the braveness to have confidence the reality, study God's observe and learn the reality.... John 17:17 Thy observe is actuality.

I placed my answer in the original posting. If you truly seek understanding than go back to the question you posted.
They were in effect BECAUSE Moses was dealing with sinners. Godliness is a process. We are the evolution of Mosaic law here in America. Read history. God never advocates rape or slavery, but those he dealt with were all sinners who did these things. What Moses did was begin the evolution of virtue that reached us and we outlawed the practices totally.
Do not ever listen to a person who says the OT is done away with. They aren't real Christians. The OT is intact but God never advocated rape or slavery. So, just because it is there in the OT and had Moses posting rules and punishments about it, does not mean God said it wasn't sin. It is wrong now and was then.

Hate to state the obvious, but... those wacko laws were put into place because wackos were actually doing these things, and the people didn't know how to punish them.
If you study out what Jesus said about fulfilling the law, you'll know that He fulfilled the law, and now these things no longer need to be fulfilled. Why do you think they don't sacrifice animals for the sins of the people anymore? Because the law has been fulfilled by Jesus.

I think because most of them realize that they can not argue that these laws were crazy. They have nothing to give no answers. They have no answers because they themselves deep down in the bottom reaches of themselves realize that their religion is absolutly crazy and opposed to any form of common sense, rational thought, or critical thinking. If they looked at the bible and really read it they would come to see that their religion is at best idiotic and at worst is responsible for the worst crimes in human history.

You dont REALLY expect to get a real response to this, do you??? Youve said it yourself - this is inexcusable absurdity. So, they pretend as if it never happened, or simply ignore your question.

You do realize you are still under the moral law, don't you. Christians are not. You will be judged by the moral law because you have not accepted Jesus Christ. We will not be judged by the law. Those laws were to govern a nation, just like we have laws now in our society. they were in effect and they worked. They are still in effect for you because you need them to live a moral life. Christians are new creatures and don't need them to live a moral life. "the law is for the lawless."

Sure-, that's why god sent down his son, to let the world know that we can ignore some of his dad's words.
yeah... that's the ticket.
Exactly how much proof do the believers need before they begin to question their faith?

This is exactly the point where Christians have to become dishonest to continue their faith. They lie and ignore the immoral implications of their assertions.
Witness the dishonesty of their answers.
