I'm trying to find a full-time job, but I'm having difficulty. I haven't worked in almost a month and I'm running low on money. I don't want to settle for a job that doesn't pay what I need or offer the benefits I want. I was thinking about getting a waitressing job in the mean time. I have years of experience. That's how I got through college.

Today, I applied to a few restuarants in my area. When they asked me my availablitiy, I said I was looking for something long term. I really needed the job, so I said it. It wasn't completely lying, b/c I don't know how long I'll be searching for a better position. But, what happens if 3 weeks down the road I get my dream job offer.

How do you graceful back out of a job you just got? I need money, so I had to do something.

From what you have typed above you seem to be very smart and the right job is most likely right around the corner. Don't let your emotions about needing money and the potential short term employer doing you a favor and giving you a job play into it.

They don't have any loyalty to hire you, and with the proper two week notice, you don't have any loyalty built up for them at this point.

Good luck!

Two weeks' notice is the norm. Most employers understand your situation but will need that amount of time to find a replacement.

when you were asked your availablility, you weren't lying when you said you were looking for something long term. you were honest and there is no reason why you should feel any negative feeling of leaving if you get that job your looking for. just put in your two week notice, and move on. hope you find what your looking for.

You would owe them two weeks notice. Most people would understand your leaving for more money.

Just give them 2 weeks notice and you will be fine. You do not owe them anything beyond that.
