Does anyone know how reliable a Sig P226 is when you feed it Hydra-shoks? I want something with more stopping power in .40 S&W than regular FMJ ammo, and I'd like to get some 155-grain hydra-shoks, but first I need to know that my pistol won't choke on it.

lefty limpwrist - Assault rifle? Since when is assault rifle spelled p-i-s-t-o-l? And Hydra-shoks aren't armor-piercing in any way. You need to fix your cranial-rectal inversion.

I have a 226R and i have done very extensive testing of this ammo. Its not the best out there. there are much better. When Hydrashock first came out they were great. they were also the only kids on the block too. I use Speer Gold Dot. So do most of the local and federal Law enforcement, theres a reason for that.

It all depends on what you want it for. CCW or home defense. you may want to consider the Gold dot. in a 40 go for the 180, it has a deeper cavity and spreads very fast.
the hydra-shock, by design has a post in it. Taking away from available volume in the cavity. if you shoot through sheetrock, denim, a coat or anything before the actual target chances are the cavity will be easily clogged. This can ( and most times does stop the projectile from expanding, in turn giving you a very expensive FMJ. The big difference with the speer is that it the core is cut much deeper almost prefragmented so that the expansion is much easier. This is a very god thing. I have done all sorts of tests on both of these. I would say Hydrashock has about a 30% success rate and gold dot is about 85%. Dont get me wrong its stil going to hurt and possibility kill them, but the whole idea of having a JHP is to maximize the damage per shot. and hydrashoks just dont do this reliably. I have tested this ammo in Water, Ballistic Gellitan, Ballistic Wax, Sheet Rock, Chipped tires, windows, car doors. you name it, i have shot it. and there are few rounds out there that actually do what they claim.

when you look at feeding. I have a 229 that has almost 5000 rounds through it, not a jam yet, and when you test ammo like i do, i put all sorts of ammo. Sig's are great guns.

Hydra Shok will work just fine in your Sig. Remington also has the solution for auto-loaders that won't feed anything but ball ammunition. Their hollow point ammo is configured to feed just as if it were ball ammo.

I have a sig 226r 9mm and it has never choked no matter what I fed it even with winchester value pack ammo and my m6 mounted underneath. I always do a 200 round function test with carry ammo. I know it's expensive but if your gun can function flawlessly through 200 rounds you're set. If it doesn't like the hydra-shocks try speer gold dot, hornaday tap, winchester ranger, and corbon. I used to have a .40 S&W Sig Sauer P229... I fired several rounds of Hydra-Shok ammunition through it and never had a problem. Very dependable round.

The Sig is premo and hydra-shok is reliable. I have never heard of anybody having a problem mating the two.

I've read a number of articles which have stated that for practical purposes, Hydra-shok ammo is all hype and is no more effective than any other standard JHP ammo.

Unless you're in the military, you never use FMJ rounds when you're carrying or using a pistol for home defence. You should do some research on things to consider for self-defence if you weren't aware of that.

i do no longer comprehend the place you're, yet Federal ammo, be it Gold Medal, Hydra-shok, or despite is attainable at any gunstore that i've got been in! in the event that they positioned that crap on the label, it in ordinary terms a a circulate to cover their @sses in case of a capturing. Cor-Bon used to declare that on their labels, too, yet i've got been employing it for 2 many years.

It's a Sig! It'll eat anything but wadcutters and semi wadcutters. Hydra are so expensive, though, that you wouldn't be able to afford to practice with them. If you wanna practice with expensive ammo, though, use Hornady TAP ammo.

Sigs will eat Hydra-Shoks for breakfast.

You still want to shoot a few boxes in your weapon to make sure.
