I have decided not to hire a photographer for the reception of my wedding, since they are different days (destination wedding). I have a nice SLR camera but don't want to take pictures myself. Who should take the pictures?? I don't really want to bother my family members, but I guess I could always look for a volunteer. Plus, I don't really want to use those silly disposible cameras, they never look good. Any ideas?

Just ask people to bring a camera of their own and someone could use yours for the good ones. Then you can get a bunch of people taking pictures that you would never get. Just make sure they can lend you their memory cards, and give them back at a reasonable time (if you have them do it they most likely will mess it up).

Please rethink the disposable camera issue - yes, of course they are silly, but your guests will have fun with them and you will get photos of things you never saw going on while you were busy dancing and eating!

Who to ask depends on what kinds of shots you want. If you don't really care, then your SLR camera is too good and the high quality won't matter if the person taking the shots doesn't know how to get the best use of lighting and angles. Someone who is not interested in your wedding (as someone above suggested) won't be interested enough to focus and take beautiful pictures for you. Someone who really cares would be a better choice and I'm sure if you ask around, you'll find an uncle, aunt, good friend or cousin who really enjoys taking photos and knows how to use and appreciate the type of camera you have. People who care about you and enjoy taking pictures will not be bothered at all if you ask them. You do need to consider who is going to develop the photos and organize them for you, or if you will do it yourself later on.

At my reception, we placed disposible cameras on the tables for our guest to take pictures. We got some really awesome pictures, pictures of everyone at the wedding and did not have to pay the photographer extra for the reception pictures. Take a chance and a let your guests take the pictures. You can order special wedding cameras, so not to have tacky cameras on the tables, and take them to a place like wal-mart, where if you do not like the pictures you don't have to pay for them. It worked very well for us. And if you want particular pictures, ask your guests, they will be glad to accomidate you.

Whatever you do don't ask any of your family or bridal party to do it. They are there to help you celebrate. Plus, you probably won't get that many pictures from them because they will be mingling and having a good time. I would try finding out if anyone you know might know someone who is interested in photography. Like one of your bridal party's friends or cousins or something. Basically you may have to pay someone a little something to do it. If you can find a younger person you wouldn't have to pay much at all. I just wouldn't ask any of your guests to do it.

How about a cousin or uncle, someone that's not in the wedding, but would still be at the wedding. Or how about paying someone $50 to take the pics for you. Maybe a co-worker or young intern of yours. Maybe a neighbor or a friend's younger brother or sister.

How about the best man or another groomsman? Also, there may be a family member, like an aunt or uncle that would be intrested...or you can find someone and pay them with dinner...like a friend of a friend? Maybe this will help. Good luck and best wishes on your big day!

If you are the groom neither you or the bride should take the pictures the grooms father should the Bride parents pay the grooms parents should take the pictures. Only fair, But If you do not want to bug your family members try your best man!!

well a few pics don't hurt. I mean a lot of people have cameras right and they will all be taking pics. U can ask them to give you the pics they took. Or ask someone, who you know and who is good at that, like any friends keen on photography. Good luck.
