Sometimes Christians get on my nerves when they claim that science is a religion and that atheists are hard headed morons who will go to hell. And then they wonder why atheists argue with them the way they do.

I am a Christian and I believe that science is a very helpful and logical way of understanding our world around us. However, science cannot give us an answer to things that cannot be proven or seen using the scientific method.

Evolution in itself is not evil and is a theory about how the origins of life and humanity came to be. It is not an evil scheme to destroy religion or attack Christians.

Atheists however need to understand that not all Christians are that closed minded and hard headed as some are. I for one am open minded and respect any person's beliefs.

Now, am I the only one out here who feels this way?

(No bashing of religions or beliefs by either side, please.)

Fireball226: I never said that science was a religion. I am talking about Christian and Atheist interactions in general. Thanks.

I agree with you. I think Christians are good people until they prove otherwise, such is my philosophy with all people. The only problem is, ignorant people from every religion make their religion look bad. Science is apart from religion, it neither confirms nor denies a good, but simply looks for provable theories of what happens in nature.

People who are close minded from every religion bother me. Your religion is your truth, but don't try to make it the truth for others. Simply state your opinion instead of telling everyone who doesn't agree with it that they will go to Hell or some other negative afterlife. Live and let live. Or in this case Believe and let believe.

If only the world was as open minded as you. Some people are brought up believing very specific things, and some people are allowed to choose. Just like how some people feel the need to shove their religion down your throat. I am not Christian, but I agree with you. Live and let live.

You said it perfectly and I am in total agreement with you. There are too many on this site from both sides that only seem to want to condemn or mock a person for their personal beliefs. Christians are not stupid and atheists are not evil so why cant we all just respect each other and their beliefs and quit judging and making fun of them.

i am atheist although baptised catholic when i was a baby! i don't believe in god but do believe in evolution and selective procreation that has advanced life and i do have my own beliefs in an afterlife that is not heaven or hell. but i have never and will never force my opinion onto others. i think the general problem most atheists have is that whenever the say they don't believe they get "closed minded christians" preaching, putting down and telling them that what they think is wrong!
I'm happy that you are not one of these people but i hope this answers parts of what you asked

Science is not evil, it's the intentions of some scientists who are evil. Cloning, stem cell, abortion and such...I don't hate Atheists, but I do not agree with them. I do not need to have proof that I can see and hold in my hand to validate my beliefs...God is like the wind, you cannot see Him, but you can feel Him. I don't need science because I have God and I can rely on his answers and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It's not about being close minded...it's about trusting the unseen, which I have learned to do and am better for it. When I was Atheist and constantly questioning and fighting against God I was miserable, now that I have Him I am not letting go.

I try and always be an open minded Christian and I agree that science is not evil.
I think people are entitled to their beliefs, even if they seem "out there" to me.

actually- I don't care about the whole god part, but I agree with you entirely... science and religion are not related, however people claiming that science is wrong based simply on the fact that it contradicts a religious text are definitely being closed minded- thus, fair game for ME to make fun of... but I wouldn't make fun of a person who showed some degree of intelligence, which you just did with flying colors

peace

As an individual atheist I know that the vast majority of theists are the same way as you. The minority that reject reality in favor of their favorite 'holy book' are just more vocal than you are.

I think some atheists respond to them to provide a counterpoint and highlight how weak their arguments are you anyone who has not given it thought.

Others respond just to get a rise out of them.

I think you would get on fine with 90% of the atheists here. We just disagree of the existance of one god.

Thank you for the attitude that we can meet and discuss our beliefs on this issue, and not resort to calling names or condemning each other if we don't agree.

You're not the only one who would rather see a discussion instead of flame wars or trading insults.
