...or are they ONLY illegal when there is a "No U-turn" sign
(and this is for San Antonio, TX, specifically, if that helps).

I didn't get a ticket.. but am hoping to avoid one.

Here's why I want to know in a nutshell: There are some destinations I am going to that are only across the street from where I am, and would be easy to get to, if not for a grassy or concrete median dividing up opposite lanes of traffic. In order to get to that place, I have to make a right, go up the street to a traffic light, make a left onto the intersecting street... then drive waaaaaay up that street looking for a place to make another left so that I can try and get turned around to go back in the correct direction towards the original destination.
If they ARE always illegal, sign or no sign, are there other options besides driving so far out of the way just to get turned around?

In ALL states, if there is a sign that says "no u-turn" then to do so is illegal. In MOST states, a u-turn in the middle of the block is illegal and you can only do it at intersections. You need to get a copy of your state law....but for a quick reference...this is what I found.

""There is only one law specifically regarding U-turns: §545.102, which prohibits a U-turn if you cannot see 500 feet in front of you. Otherwise, U-turns are allowed anywhere as long as there is not a sign prohibiting it. If you want to make a U-turn at a traffic light, you cannot do so unless the left turn signal is green or, if there is no left turn signal, then the light for through traffic must green. Whenever you make a U-turn, you must, of course, yield to oncoming traffic just as if you were making a left turn.""

so i just got a ticket today for making a u-turn at a "business district" street which is so freaking retarded. It was infront of my house on 5th and Manhattan in Los Angeles. No one in the car knew such law existed....but heres what CA DMV says on the LAST note:

Never make a U-turn:
-At or on a railroad crossing.
-On a divided highway by crossing a dividing section, curb, strip of land, or two -sets of double yellow lines.
-Where you cannot see clearly 200 feet in each direction because of a curve, hill, rain, fog, or other reason.
-Where a "No U-Turn" sign is posted.
-When other vehicles may hit you.
-On a one-way street.
-In front of a fire station. Never use a fire station driveway to turn your vehicle around.
-In business districts. Areas with churches, apartments, multiple dwelling houses, clubs, and public buildings (except schools) are also considered to be business districts. Turn only at an intersection, unless a sign prohibits it, or where openings are provided for turns.

Here they are only illegal if a sign is posted that they are illegal (that made no sense at all).

However, u-turns must be done in a safe manner. If you whip a u-turn in a busy intersection or near the top of the hill where you can't see, I may ticket it.

Otherwise, have at it.

That's the way wrestling has always been even since the 60s. It's just part of the script If they don't have their back turned (sometimes by a manager distracting them), then they are knocked out (kayfabe)

If there is no sign- U turn away!

If the sign saying no U turns is obstructed or defaced to the point that it's difficult to read, you have a very strong case per getting a tciket dismissed.

It will depend on the laws of the individual state, here in Ohio it is not against the state law, but there are local city ordinances that prohibit U -turns.
But one thing in the drivers favor, it it's not clearly posted, the ticket can be voided.

That's what the ear piece the referee is wearing is for . Vince yells their ear off to be "distracted" from the rule breakers .. Love the comments that Micheal Cole says , It's a "CHEAP SHOT" when a heel does the attack, when a face wrestler does the same attack it's a "STRATEGICAL MANEUVER"

U-turns are always legal, when done safely. U-turns are not permitted only where the signs are posted.
