Chavez is a bastard, but he won't last. I don't think the US is really that worried about him.

No. As of now, the US Military mainly prefers to focus on the major hotspots like the Middle East and North Korea. Though small minor things may be happening in South America, there are really no diplomatic problems between the US and any country in SM. You may say Mexico may be having relations between the US, but they are nothing. Communism has currently not been a big problem for the US Government. Right now, they US Gov. is much more worried in something else- terrorism.

No, the problem for the US is not that the taxes of the Venezuelan people are being spent in a way the Venezuelan people gave their assent for by voting for Chavez - the problem for the US is Chavez REALLY doesn't like the US, is a charismatic person, is good for his people and could make South America as a whole more powerful and a rival to the US. THAT is what the problem is.
Oh and he has quite a lot of oil too, which is always a bonus.

too much of south america is a 3rd world country full of uneducated peasants, including chavez. he's a lunatic. why would the u.s. care about him? it's more likely the president will come to get rid of the ants in my backyard before he would care about chavez.

Chavez is popular within his country. I would hate to see us get involved with him. His wealth is also dependent on the high cost of oil. The black tarry crude that he has to ship is only worth refining if prices are high. Another big reason to get off the oil habit.

I don't understand why it could be a problem for u.s. U.S. has to understand that the world is, and should be forever plural. It means that we are as individual persons, unique. Also, the people has differents beliefs.
