Actually, people *do* care about the actions of Fortune 500 CEOs. Quite a bit. Read the business section of a newspaper sometime.
That said, Fortune 500 companies have the money they do because they offer a unique product or service that people want. Pastors and preachers should really be compared to politicians. I don't want them to be rich, either, at least not from their time in office. If they get rich, they are doing it at the expense of the people they're supposed to be helping.
Pastors should be able to support themselves and their families, but if they are begging for your hard-earned dollars in designer suits and jewelry, there's a problem.

Jesus was very poor and he was talking about spiritual treasures and said that it would be difficult for a rich man to get into the kingdom of God.
To preach merely for the purpose of getting rich they are having heir reward in full and by the way most preachers make a very good income and TV evangelists are all on the Forbes 400 richest men in America. If Jesus had that money he would help the poor, rather than put in gold faucets.
Or have an air conditioned dog house.
When Jesus came to earth they had the pharasees who were rich money lovers. Who didn't care about the people.
sounds like the religious leaders of today.

Good question!
There's no need for a pastor to be dirt-poor, because if he's struggling from day to day just to meet his material needs, he probably won't be a very good pastor. (Through no fault of his own.)
On the other hand, he should live as simply as he can. If he's serving a poorer, inner-city area, his standard of living shouldn't be that much higher than the people around him. If he's serving a more affluent suburb, perhaps his SOL should be less than that of his neighbors.
There's no evidence that Jesus and the disciples were poor beggars, but at the same time, they did not exactly live extravagantly either.

One church set the pastor's salary to match that of the high school principals in the area. They felt that would be a fair match for the qualifications and experience required.
Proverbs 30:8-9
Give me neither poverty nor wealth; feed me with the food I need. Otherwise, I might have too much and deny You, saying, “Who is the Lord?” or I might have nothing and steal, profaning the name of my God.

Nothing is wrong with having money so long as your heart is in the right place. The bible states that it is simply harder for a rich man to to focus his mind totally on God, however, it also states that money is not evil, but the LOVE of money is the root of all evil.
So to answer your question: I would assume most people feel that way because they think thier pastor would do better without the distractions that come with being filthy rich. I, however, think its fine to be a Trillionaire christian, as long as you are not a lover of money.

I don't believe they should poor, I think they actually should live combfortable lives, I just don't think the poor should pay for it.
The Poor make alot of people rich, alot of times it's immoral cause they don't get what the product they pay for, and sometimes have their money just taken away by the rich, but alot (not all) of clergy sell false hope, which is as about evil as you can get without physically hurting someone.

because churches are not to be corporations that are in business to make a profit.
the purpose of a church is to witness to others and lead them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
How can a man hear if he is hungry? Shouldn't we feed him first?
I believe the money that is given to God through a tithe should go to doing God's work. God commands us in the Bible to feed the hungry, give to the poor, the orphaned and widows. However, in many churches the largest portion of their budget goes to maintaining their physical facility....not to helping the less fortunate.
WWJD? If God were walking on the earth today, do you think he would be driving a Mercedes and preaching from multi-million dollar facilities...I doubt it. I think he would drive the most economical form of transportation...he would preach from donated warehouses/buildings, etc...or from a tent...he would take up an offering and give it to those in need...not line his own pockets.
I believe churches have lost focus of what they are called to do...and they are becoming political corporations...more concerned with politics, wealth, etc... than helping others. This is a sad state when you can't tell the difference between a church and a corporation...or a corporate executive from a large churches pastor.
One other point...I believe there is nothing wrong with personal wealth..when you have worked hard to earn it...however, the money given to God through a tithe...is God's money...and I do not believe that God looks favorably on churches have massed wealth..when that wealth..(God's tithed money) could be helping others.

they don't have to be broke. my friends father isn't and you know why because unlike some preachers that feel like they should get a free ride off of the church because they are a man of god, he has something else called a J O B. he works and takes care of his church and i may not believe in religion but i respect that man. why would you go to a church that respects a man living off of the poor people in his church. that money should go toward scholarships and church repairs and feunerals for people that can't afford it. not in some lazy mans pocket that's using peoples beliefs to rob them.
Not to mention if they got into the church based on how much money they thought they deserved for preaching in it don't you think they bacame a preacher for the wrong reason?

I don't think Jesus,or his disciples, made much money out of religion.Preachers live off the backs of their congregations. If they were really dedicated they could do an honest days work & preach in their spare time, for free. There is 168 hours in a week,if they worked 40,they still have 128 to preach.Scammers.

There is nothing wrong with a Pastor being blessed if his dealings in the church that he's been placed over isn't in debt and he is giving faithfully as well. It's the pastor's that hold their money with clenched fists that are an offense to God and others who are faithful.
