The question is: what is interesting to you? Have you had any burning questions about anything in particular floating around in your head lately? Then try to answer them. But don't forget to try and mix a little fun in with the research. Too much research can fry the brain. Nonetheless, here are a few ideas.

Leonardo da Vinci - Probably the greatest genius who ever lived.

Michel de Nostredame (Nostradamus) - A very interesting character indeed. His prognostications are still avidly studied today,

Edgar Cayce - A gentle personality and an extremely interesting life. Here's a link:

Clairvoyance and spiritualism - Once you have studied a little about Edgar Cayce, you won't be able to get enough on this subject.

Michelangelo Buonarroti - Another great genius. Following this trail could produce endless possibilities.

Egyptology - Were the ancient Egyptians really that great?

This should be enough to get you started. Bon appetit!

Pick anything! Once you start researching one topic questions will arise related to that topic and in the process of answering those questions other questions will arise that are less-related to your original pick so that after some time you'll have created a web of knowledge around your topic which includes topics you may not have thought were all related.

Why not pick the 1950's? Most of us know the 1950's from television shows, movies, and music. But what were they really like? And were they the same world over? And you can't study the 1950's without looking at the 1940's how War's influence. What about the 1960's you couldn't have had those without the 1950's?

Ah, you're making me salivate at the very idea of starting with a topic and researching it exhaustion. I'm sure this is going to be a very worthwhile quest of yours.

Study the future.

Pick up Ray Kurzweil's "The Singularity is Near", and check out what's in store for the next 40 years; you'll be amazed!

I was looking at several sites that talked about the murder of actor Bob Crane (Hogan from Hogan's Heroes). It's pretty interesting and they still don't know who killed him...
