Why do we have to pay thousands of dollars on a dress that (let's face it) either gets thrown in a closet or dry cleaned and stored in a box in our garage? Our daughters will never really where it. Guys only have to pay a couple hundred bucks for their tux. Woudn't we rather spend the money else where for our wedding?

They can be rented, it's just rare. There are a number of reasons why renting wedding dresses isn't more common:

1. Women are more shapely than men, so their bodies do not conform well to one standard size. Most women need their wedding dress altered in order for it to fit properly, but you can't do that if it's rented. Tuxes, on the other hand, do not have to be form fitting.
2. Styles of wedding dresses come and go, and there are hundreds of different types of dress out there. A rental store couldn't possibly stock a good selection of dresses to keep up with changing trends. Tuxes, however, remain the same.
3. Wedding dresses take a beating. Someone steps on the train and it rips a little. Straps break. Champaign is spilled. Etc. Wedding dresses are expensive to clean and to mend, unlike tuxes.

i think bride to be really prepare this occasion as the highlight of their lives. they wanted it to be the most memorable day in their lifetime. especially if this is their first time getting married and thinking they want to be the perfect queen for that day. then, even its the most expensive wedding dress there is, they keep it as a souvenir, a memento of their happy young life, starting together. some bride expect their groom to be well prepared as well, not just like a rental tuxedo that they can return, some bride, keep the two clothing to preserve for their children and grandchildren to see (if the marriage will last that long). those clothing can be wear again if their size were still the same after several long years, think about the silver & golden wedding anniversary, they do still tie the knot accordingly. what would be the best way if you can still wear the same one? if not, alteration is the other option. plus if they pay that much, they will be the center of attention comparing price from their other married friends...

Because there are not a lot of places that rent bridal gowns. I am lucky because there is one shop in my area that does rent everything the bride needs including jewelry for a maximum cost of about $150. This is my 2nd wedding and I dont want to spend a lot on the dress, but I do want a wedding dress and I want good pictures. It is just unfortunate that there arent shops in every city or state that do this so a lot of brides have to buy a gown. Of course I dont understand why someone would want to spend an exhorbitant amount for a dress.

I have heard that you can rent wedding dresses. You just have to find out where. You should ask many bridal shops. I just think they don't make a big announcment about dress rentals because they rather you buy one. But some places do have dresses for rent. Good Luck!

You CAN rent a wedding dress. You can also buy one used that has been only worn once, or in some cases, not at all. You can buy a nice dress at Goodwill or Salvation Army for $25--less than a groom can rent, and then you can turn around and sell it on ebay for $200. Go for it.

I was going to rent a dress for my wedding until I tried some dresses on and I'm between sizes so in order for me to rent a dress I would have to have it pinned up or it would look rediculous and my coordinator said that since I'm getting married on location if I found a dress that I really loved I should just buy it, because it would cost just as much to rent if they had to order it.

I'm with you, you only marry once (sometimes) but you would never use the dress again. The guys always get off with less to pay then the girl. Not fair. Why is there not a wedding dress retail store?????

Uhm, wedding dresses can be rented. Granted, you don't find nearly as many rental shops for wedding gowns, but they are out there. Here are a few links.

See? The option is avaliable. Thing is, more women need to ask and refuse to pay for the expensive dresses if more services like this are to become avaliable. But who wants to hassle with that when you're planning your wedding!?

This is a funny question, though it is etiquette enough to be awn sered. It is true mostly all woman want to buy this beautiful expensive dress. It has many re sons towards why rent ins read of buy. Many woman, like to keep it for memory's of when they got married, others keep it to show it to their children when they get older, maybe they borrow it to their daughter when she gets married, and others keep it for anniversary, many people get married over time once again, so they want to wear the exact dress they wore on their wedding day.. I really hope this helps you understand... Have a good evening..

I would google this, because I have heard of this before. Or you can long online for a used dress - check ebay.com or craigslist.com or the newspaper. You can usually get a used dress for $100-$500, sometimes they are not even worn (if someone is getting rid of it due to the wedding getting called off, choosing another dress, etc.)
