Both there and in Denmark and Holland they artiifically created a low official crime rate by legalizing drugs and prostituion, also citing figures based on number of violent crimes ( numerical),which would obviously be low given their small size. Per capita figures do not seem to be available, which would afford the only standard of comparison with a larger society. I ask because we have this Dutch man on board who keeps pushing the idea of a link between Christianity and crime. He also points to Holland as a model state when it's a culturally non-fecund state with sky-high heroin addiction and juvenile prostitution. He tirelessly reiterates that most American prison inmates cite a religious denomination, therefore most criminals are Christian. His logic, not mine. i say,if that is so,then would not the fact that almost all crime in Holland is committed by atheists "prove' a relationship between atheism and crime/ Opinions?

It is atheists who claim a correlation between religion or lack of it and crime, not I; I think the religious background or lack of one in a criminal population is merely a reflection of the religious character of the society. I note many atheists employing the old urban liberal stunt of using factoids - stats derived from an obviously biased web-site or "study" - their favorite justification for everything is "studies have shown..." Then you check out the source, and it's some lobby-type org. By the way,how is legalizing crime like narcotics not artifically creating a seemingly lower crime rate? We have many drug dealers in our prisons which is exactly where they should be. It's easy to have a "low crime rate" when you keep legalizing crime.

Simple...

...as I believe (that generally speaking; i.e., socialistic values) the majority of people in Scandinavian states would tend to be atheists...

I'd bet that the majority of crimes committed in the US are by those who believe in "god"?

So what's the REAL "connection"?

The only one I can see or that makes sense is that a majority of the crimes are committed by people living in the states that they are from!? (grin)...

...and what is considered a 'crime' in one part of the world is NOT a crime in another...

...why is that?

I believe that it would be more productive to ask why it is that people are committing crimes--period, and not attempt to associate it with religion or even 'a state'.

This is an old and tired arguement. It IS true that Europeans as a whole, and the so-called Low Countries as well, have a lower violent crime rate than the US, but that's not because of our religious majority. In the 50's they did a study that all the kids in Juvinile Halls read comic books, so comic books must cause crime! They failed to see that ALL kids read comic books (it was the 50's, that's what they did). In the 20's and the 70's they did the same with adults, and found that there was a larger portion of black people in prison than they were in the general population, so blacks must be RACIALLY motivated to crime!

In the end, the one and only determinate towards crime rate is poverty levels. We have very high levels of poverty in this country, which causes greater desperation and the crime rate goes up. The number one way to lower crime is to give people good jobs, and it's been proven time and again. Why do you think one of the requirements for someone on parole is to have a job? In Holland and Denmark, they have a much more wealthy and larger (percentage wise) middle class, so their crime rate can be expected to be lower. They have free medical care and strong unions, which results in a strong middle class and less poverty. Less poverty leads to less violent crime, always and everywhere.

It has NOTHING to do with religion, it has everything to do with living standards.

Almost all crime in China is committed by Chineese. You have to consider the base population before taking a statistic like his (or yours) seriously. Most Americans are Christian so any segment (inmates, millionaires, cancer patients, etc.) are also going to be mostly Christian. Likewise most Dutch are Atheist so any segment of that population will likewise have an Atheist majority. The proper way to make that determination is to find out how a specific demographic differs from the whole population. ie. Do Christians commit a proportionally greater amount of crime than non-christians? Another way to put it: Is the percentage of non-Christians in prison greater, less than, or equal to the percentage of non-Christians in the whole population?

Now, on that one I do not know the answer but do have a guess. Persons who claim Atheism, on average, are more intelligent than persons professing a religious belief of any kind (see sources) and likewise, persons of higher intelligence are, on average, less likely to commit crime and therefore end up in prison. Extrapolating from those two determinations one may assume that there is, in fact, a disproportionally large percentage of Christians in prison...in both countries. Sorry.

I'm sorry, you lost me at legalized drugs.

kidding.

I don't think it's possible to make the connection you're trying to make. Seems like you're making up this Athiest/criminal connection because a dutchman thinks there's a christian/criminal connection?

I mean, how do you know atheists in holland are the only ones committing crimes? Do you have any statistics to back that claim up?

Man has two minds or as Dr Sarno's book said the divided mind. The ist is the conscious mind which has evolved in the higher state and is the rational mind, spiritual mind, the ethical mind; and the other one is the sub-conscious mind or the sub-specie mind. The sub-specie mind is the primitive mind or the criminal mind or the irrational mind or the apeman-mind. The sub-conscious mind is the remnant left behind in the higher evolution of the conscious mind. The sub-conscious mind being the apeman-mind is the the devil's seat so to speak. And in the sub-conscious mind is where the evil spirit deceives the conscious mind by overwhelming it through passion, rage, revenge, jealousy, lust for power and money. As the atheist has no spiritual mind the apeman mind dominates his consciousness and acts like an ape-man with an animal instinct and thus, commits crime like indulgence in drugs, prostitution, gambling, murders and violations of laws. That is why the Prophet Daniel called the Government of Mankind as the Government of the Beast or the Kingdom of the Beast . It is because, what dominates this world of men are lust for material things and naked power. However, there are part of mankind that are spiritual and GOD has seeded mankind of 10% of its population of men who are spiritual or GOD's chosen ones. But they are not the aggressive unlike the apeman-mind because being spiritual they are gentle and allows man to grow through his errors. And in this sense even the devil is a creation of GOD as HIS instrument of suffering because THE LORD JESUS CHRIST was a suffering servant. Any victim of these apemen becomes a suffering servant like that OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. And anyone killed by these apemen are given the honors and glory of partaking to the martyrdom of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. As THE LORD JESUS CHRIST mentioned in relationship to Judas Iscariot, the traitor, saying let the scripture be fulfilled. In this way the scripture shows us a world in a crescendo of crimes of wickedness of this world and finally the whole world will become a home of demons and visitations of the evil spirits. That will signal for THE LORD JESUS CHRIST to come back, 2nd coming, and takes over the reign of government from men. HIS kingdom will be universal and will be called THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN where no one will say I am ill and peace, justices and righteousness reign. THANKS TO THE LORD GOD ALMIGTHY AND TO THE LAMB-THE LORD JESUS CHRIST into unending amen.

rebuttal question Is it feasible that i became into living house on my own without witnesses? Do I stay in a topic the place, if i became into at living house on my own, it is entirely a risk that i could desire to proceed to be ignored, or do I stay in a community the place it is particularly not likely that i could desire to've been at living house and no person could've known? this suggestions is going to the credibility of my "own adventure" So now that there is not basically info FOR me doing the crime, there is likewise info against my own adventure. wherein case I re-ask the question from yet another answerer....in case you're a Juror, do you have faith the info, or my (progressively greater feeble) exclamation!

Sorry, but those countries have a low crime rate. The drugs and prostitution over there don't cause as much problems as it does here, because of they are legal. There's no need for a black market for them.

In the US, however, the prisons have a disproportionately high percentage of Christians and a disproportionately low percentage of atheists.

Also, there have been studies that show that the more religious a country is, the more problems the country has with such things as crime.

According to statistics The highest crime rate of any country in the world is found in "Vatican City". The lowest crime rates are in the Scandinavian countries and Japan (enough said).

Nope, you did not understand the stats.

What you are attempting to show is that criminals of a nation are of the same general belief systems as the general population.

The point is criminals, and mostly violent criminals, are DISPROPORTIONALY people of faith compared to the general population.

Plus, in nations with high religiosity, such as the United States, we have much higher rates of violent crime then in secular nations such as in Scandinavia and the rest of Europe.

No criminals cause crime. Because someone says they are a Christian or an Atheist means nothing. It is their actions that mark them as a criminal or not.
