It's called a Pallet-Expander ..... I just got mine off a few months ago. It will fit on the roof of your mouth and you won't be able to remove it. It's a little uncomfortable when you first have it on,- much like braces at first, but then you get used to it and forget it's even there. It's smooth and is fun to run your tong against when your board in class. There are medal rings around the edge and it will attach to the back molars. It will be fine. - good luck!PS. I suggest that you take Tylenol before you go so it will be active by the time they put it in, and eat alot of more before hand.

The appliance you are talking about is called an expander. The orthodontists will place the expander between your top two molars to space out your teeth and help make them straighter. Many people get expanders when they get their braces, and getting it should be fine, no worries.

However, once you are there, it may hurt a little when they place it in your mouth. Make sure that it fits comfortably, because if it is too thin, it will break (and that will just add to your dental price by getting a new expander), and if it is too thick, it is going to KILL and dig into your gums and will have to be replaced.

Before you leave for the orthodontist's, eat as much as you can because after you get the expander, your mouth might hurt too much to eat anything. Don't worry though, the pain will go away in 30 min. to an hour.

If you want to learn more about expanders, go to http://kidsexpanders.com and they will tell you a lot.

Good luck!
