I like the idea of carrying a mask--like a masquerade mask or a Marte Gras feathered mask. Do something elaborate.

What I would recommend is something renaissance. What kind of dress are you wearing? If you had something rather Renaissance for the costume...

You could probably keep on your actual wedding dress, and merely add a skirt around the bottom that turned it into a similar Renaissance costume. Especially if you went Scottish, the groom could merely change from tux pants to a kilt.

Or do the Queen of Hearts from Alice

or Cinderella
Something rather big and poofy would remain that you would be the center of attention--as the bride should be.

For food, pumpkin juice would be rather harry potter. or chilled pumpkin soup for a more elegant feel. Decorate with black and silver centerpieces to make it look more elegant. Be careful with "green" products b/c of the artificial dyes. You don't want to walk around with green teeth.

I think it sounds like a GREAT idea. I love halloween weddings. Congrats.

Mask and facepaintless, hm. The couples idea is a good one. Also, you might want to look into mythological creatures and the like. It would be very easy to dress up as a fae or a dryad with a nice flowing gown and dried flowers in your hair. He could dress up as an ancient warrior or nobleman or some such thing.

You could also ask people to dress in a particular time period or have some fun at the reception by putting various items around for "themed" tables.

Like, one table could be pumpkin favors or food, another chocolate, or apple. If you want a bit of hilariousness, you could always try an apple bobbing contest with a prize.

My fiance and I are getting married in Vegas, and having a Halloween wedding reception after we get back with the rest of the family.

I bought a lot of cool stuff from Oriental Trading Co., just go to their site and search "Halloween". I'm going to be wearing my wedding gown again, and I'm going to have a hand-crafted society mask on a stick. My fiance is going to be the Phantom of the Opera.

We bought small eye masks for the kids. There's going to be a table where they can glue feathers and glitter and whatnot onto them. It'll keep the kids entertained, then they can keep the masks, too.

What about research famous couples? IE Marc Antony/ Cleopatra, Romeo and Juliet, Phantom of the Opera/Christine (although that one has a mask--but a cool one!), Fred and Wilma Flintstone (to be funny). One word of advise...decide and pick soon, because costume shops reserve their rentals for Halloween WAY far in advance...the best ones will be gone by Sept 1.

have your rehersal dinner party crave the pumpkins and give prizes, then you can use them at the wedding, (not so many to crave then), place them in fall leaves and then sprinkle candy corn around them.

Take non-powdered latex gloves and fill them with water, freeze them and have them. Cut the glove off and place around the food or in your punch bowl. Looks like a hand floating. (hee hee)
If you are doing favors, then fill the latex gloves(even the fingers) with candy and give out.
Cauldron of Pumpkins

Fill small, black plastic cauldrons with orange foil-wrapped chocolate pumpkins.

Miniature Pumpkin Pies

Check with a local baker to see if you could have miniature pumpkin pies made. Wrap in cellphane and tie with orange/black ribbons. Simple, unique and delicious!

good lucky and have fun

Actually, I went out in costume on Saturday night. So, no, I'm back to the work routine today.

that sounds like a lot of fun. maybe you and your sweetie can be cinderella and prince charming, you can wear a pretty gown and he can wear a tux, have your girls rent victorian gowns, and the guys can also rent outfits that are period pieces, [you know, tights great big hats with feathers] your cake could be a carriage, you could go as far as cinderella invitations. just don't forget your glass slippers

I like basketcase's idea of famous couples.

Put dry ice in a punch bowl; it will look as if it's a bubbling cauldron.
