They aren't the same kind of theories.

Well I should clarify this much...

Evolution (both micro and macro) is a fact, just as much as gravity is a fact.

Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection is the proposed mechanism. Just as gravitational laws and theories in physics are the mechanisms to explain how gravity works. The theory is an explanation for the fact. And even the scientific theory is accurate and holds true 100% of the time (or else it would not longer be a theory).

So Evolution: fact. Natural Selection: Theory to try and explain the fact.

Religion: Wholly unsupported with no evidence. It is in no way a scientific theory and can be loosely considered a "theory" ONLY in the vernacular sense.

Believers consider their belief a fact because it's their belief and cognitive dissonance and their own brains prevent them from seeing otherwise.

EDIT:

"The Bible is a real historical document. You can hold it in your hands. It is not a theory. It's a real book."

Sorry, but the bible has no historical validity or verisimilitude whatsoever. The few things it actually provides names or dates it's typically dead wrong - especially so in the new testament.

Also the Iliad is a real book, so by your own "reasoning" you'd have to concede that Zeus is real.

EDIT 2:

"Now if you can find a theory in evolution that states that something came from nothing, then I am convinced."

Sorry pal, but you have demonstrated absolutely zero understanding of evolution. Evolution is the study of how life changes, NOT how it began. You're thinking either of the big bang or abiogenesis, both of which are completely and utterly unrelated to evolution. So basically what you can consider yourself convinced since the only argument you have against evolution is actually an argument against something completely different. =P

Dear pilgrim,

Believers think that questioning what they believe would make their faith weak. If a theory denies a portion of what they believe, then the whole foundation of their faith is put into struggle, so many prefer not to think or reason about other possibilities. Their belief (or their "fact") is based on faith, that unfortunately do not have the great evidence evolution has.
There is overwhelming scientific evidence about evolution, not only of humans but of all living creatures. The studies made on evolution are checked by a large number of scientist to be validated. Since the introduction of the theory of evolution through natural selection there are more and more scientific facts that support it.

Evolution is unproven.I wont call evolution a theory because it doesn't deserve that much credit.Oh by the way, where's that mountain of evidence?Let me guess your going to skim through a text book or some website to give some out of date answer.I bet it'll be from a chemical standpoint. It's always on the chemical side of things.Nobody ever wants to give an answer for the gap in the fossil record,or Stanley Miller's mountain sized disaster of an experiment that went completely the opposite direction it was supposed to go.When it was all said and done. The test tube still had non organic material. He spent his entire career trying to produce life in that test tube, and failed. Please no hand waving, straw man,or elephant hurling please. Please refrain from the bait and switch method please.Thank you.
I apologize if I sound mean or condescending, but just because you and others look at evolution from an "a prioi" presupposition doesn't mean everyone should.Critical thinking should be the key when addressing creation or evolution.Remember, all scientist's students, etc. have the same evidence to work with.I guess the t rex thigh bone is quite a stumbling block for evolution though.

Depending on what you consider evidence. Both are theories, Christians just consider it fact....

The point is, evolution has SO many conditions. Let's look at everything for a second, back out....no, WAY out. Let's envision nothing, because, essentially, that is what there was--nothing. Now if you can find a theory in evolution that states that something came from nothing, then I am convinced. But I think the evidence is conclusive that supernatural powers had to be at work.

Get something straight. If something works every time, without fail, it is a law. If it fails some of the time, it is a theory. If it never worked at all, then it is evolution. Evolution defies the known laws of physics, so anyone believing in evolution is ignoring pure and proven FACT. Evolution is not good science, but it does make for interesting fairy tales. Don't try to get technical with your evolution nonsense. It defies every aspect of reality.

NO, creationism isn't a theory. Scientifically speaking, evolution is a theory. That means it was a falsifiable hypothesis that was supported by evidence, observation, and experimentation. After it held up to scrutiny, it became a theory. Creationism is barely a hypothesis. It has not been supported by evidence, observation, and experimentation.

Because they have THE BIBLE silly, all we have is a zillion well documented research papers and studies, from several fields of science, and those darn fossils Satan put there to confuse us. How did we ever expect to compete with THE BIBLE...21st Century King James Version Text

evolution doesnt have any evidence thats why its a theory and science has proven many of the things that happened in the bible besides all of the facts that we have today like healing; legs growing, blind eyes seeing, and many more the christian faith is not a belief its a life.

Evolution is a theory in the scientific sense. Those beliefs are not; at best they're hypotheses.
